Honeycrisp by far! I bought a huge one last weekend for $1.50 (because it was so huge, obviously). It was worth it and took me almost a half hour to eat.

My favourite apples now are Braeburn, Gala and Fuji. I used to be very fond of Cox's Orange Pippin, as well as Sunrise and Fiesta apples, but I haven't seen them in the States, much to my regret. Now I think that I should give the Honeycrisps a try:-).

Now I'm excited. Can't wait until they make it to market here in SoCal.

I'm new to the apple preference arena. I love chomping a juicy Granny
Smith, Mutsu or Fugi. My 17 year old son will only eat Pink Ladies. They are WAY pricey here in PA. Any other similar-tasting apples around so I can try and fake him out? I can't afford his 4 apple-a-day habit!
I'm intigued with Honeycrisps. Never heard of them. Are they good for baking, eating or all of the above?

@ Josdean...Y'know, I've never had them last long enough to hang around while making a pie crust, so, out of hand is as far as they've gotten with me. Anyone?

I still prefer Pink Lady, I think, but I certainly didnt complain when y mother surprised me with a bag of Honeycrisp this past weekend!*
Except I already had a big bag of apples in the fridge. So now I must bake pie.

I have already feasted on the little jewels, like yourself all I wait for is honeycrisp!!

I'll have to try Honeycrisp. My favorite now is Fuji.
My daughter was laughing this weekend about how two bartenders went to Judge Judy because they got drunk and in a fight while "relaxing" in an afterhours place. Judge Judge apparently said she liked to relax in her own bed with a good Fuji apple!

I just saw them at Whole Foods for $4 a pound, which is a bit disturbing. At the Union Square Greenmarket I saw them for $2/lb--
They are really crispy and watery so I'm not sure how good they would be for baking. Probably perfect for salads.

I just had my first honeycrisp today at lunch! It was delicious. My other favorite is Granny Smith. So tart! Great with PB or in a salad with goat cheese, almonds, and craisins.

My daughter and youngest son are "apple snobs". Up until last year only Braeburn, then we discovered Honeycrisps! Mmmmmmm...

@Josdean - I love Pink Ladies, but I also enjoy mutsu/crispin, ginger gold, stayman winesap, fuji, gala ... just play around with the tast/sweet/crunch types. Honeycrisps have a short season, so they tend to be pricey - I eat them out-of-hand.

OH MAN - I just discovered Honeycrisps at my local farmer's market last week, and tried one (having somehow never heard of them before) based on their sheer size and pretty colors. It is by far my new favorite apple (other greats are Fuji and Gala). I've bought about ten since.
teenagefoodie at 8:17PM on 09/22/08
Yes! I just got my first Honeycrisps of the season yesterday! It had been a stressful week and finding those honeycrisps made it all so much better. There is no apple I love as much. (although a Gala will do in a pinch.)
AliceBlue at 12:06AM on 09/23/08
i've bought quite a few already.. and i was excited when i saw organic Honeykrisps at my Whole Foods.. they're extra pricey, 3.49/lb, but worth it for the limited time they're around and for the flavor and juciness
my other favorites are Jonagold, Fuji, Braeburn, and Gala.. but i love pretty much all apples, Red Delicious maybe being the exception

Honeycrisps are awesome, but I also like the hard, little Barry apples. Honeycrisps are sooo shortlived.
kcogswell at 1:06PM on 09/23/08
I love honeycrisps. I also like the tart little pippins and russets. They taste apple-y the way concords taste grape-y.
butterface at 2:28PM on 09/23/08
Can I be honest? My favorite apple is McIntosh. I've tasted honeycrisps and they're spectacular - and I like fuji, braeburn, etc. But McIntosh apples just taste like fall to me.
BangieB at 2:31PM on 09/23/08
I have never had a Honeycrisp before, guess I'll have to seek one out. I personally enjoy Gala, McIntosh or even...Red Delicious. Yes, I said it.

Oh oh oh oh!!! I'm doing the Happy Apple Dance! I've been skulking through the local Farmer's Market for weeks waiting to see Honey Crisps - no luck yet here in Ottawa - but the knowledge that they are making appearances elsewhere gives me hope.
I can't wait to get my Apple-crack addiction back up and running. :D Until then, Fujis are my methodone ...
