Mystery egg!
At the Yankee game last night I was sitting next to an Asian couple who had brought along some very interesting food. I was able to identify most of it, except for one thing- an egg. Not a chicken egg, though, I think. The shell was a dark brown, and so was the inside. It didn't smell much, so I doubt it was a thousand-year egg or anything like that. But it was definitely.. all brown. And about the same size as a chicken egg. Any ideas?

I might have been a hard boiled egg dyed with tea.

Most likely a lu dan, an egg simmered in a seasoned broth of soy sauce, spices, sometimes meat until the white (and sometimes a little of the yolk) is deeply flavored and colored by the simmering liquid.
If it was mottled brown, kinda like a marbeling effect, it was probably a cha dan (tea egg) - and egg brewed in a broth of black tea, spices, sometimes mushrooms, etc. They tend to be lighter in color and flavor than lu dan

DanielJ... I would have loved to see your face while you watched this couple eating. I can imagine the look on your face. LOL. I've never been to a pro game, so tell me please, do most people actually bring in their own food? And to this extent? Sounds unusual, but like I said, I've never actually been to one.
