Lobster Mac 'n Cheese

I have just returned from a glorious vacation in Maine and Cape Cod. I stuffed myself with Lobster and Steamers until I thought I would explode! On our last night, we visited a restaurant and I tried Lobster Mac 'n Cheese for the first time. I enjoyed the flavor, but was less than thrilled with the texture of the dish. The pasta was fusilli col bucco. It didn't work for me. I felt the cheese sauce could have been just a bit richer, but not too much to take away from the flavor of the Lobster.

So, my ever amazing SE pals, what do you know about Lobster Mac 'n Cheese? I am getting together with the girls in just 2 weeks and I would love to bring this dish. I really need a great recipe.

I have a great recipe for homemade mac 'n cheese that you could just add lobster to :)

There are a bunch of recipes on Food Network's site and ... but I recall watching Hubert Keller (Fleur-de-Lys) make it on the cheese episode of his series, Secrets of a Chef. The recipe is here, his website is here. It looked awfully decadent but not all that difficult.

Warning: this website has lots of music. You may want to turn off/down your speakers first. After the intro, click on Secrets of a Chef then Recipes. The Cheese episode is #111.

Why not try the recipe the Food Networks next Star (or whatever that show is called) his Lobster Mac & Cheese (he beat Lisa) and Paula Deen loved his and hated Lisa's.

Another idea I just thought of...Martha Stewart's mac and cheese recipe sounds like it's pretty good. Why not use that as a base and then add Lobster and Crab?

Whatever you make...I want some.

A local restaurant, Six Penn Kitchen, serves Lobster Mac'n Cheese as one of their signature dishes and it is awesome. If you're not from this area (Pittsburgh), you may be able to sweet-talk the chef via e-mail to give up his recipe. E-mail is sixpennkitchen.com and the chef is Chef Chris. I hope he's in a generous mood for you!

@joyyy can I have your mac & cheese recipe? I've tried several and I can't find one we like. It's making me crazy, I can cook ANYTHING and I can't make freakin macaroni and cheese!
I also want the recipe from Food Network, I couldn't find it though. Any hints pjracz10?

All of these ideas sound amazing! Let us know which one you choose!!

Thank you everyone for your input so far. I am definitely going to send an e-mail to Chef Chris. I do know the traditional Mac 'n Cheese style would be too cheesy and will overpower the Lobster. With the cost of Lobster down here, I can't afford a re-do! ;-)

I always think that mac n' cheese with extra ingredients in it will be amazing but I've never tasted one that was good. I had one made with mushrooms, chicken, and truffle oil but the cheese sauce was absolutely terrible, and the pasta shape didn't work for me either.

I love macaroni & cheese and lobster, have them at the same meal but don't mix them together! Both stand deliciously on their own. Some things you just shouldn't mess with.

I bet it would be amazing with some lemon juice to bring out the flavor of the lobster, along with some fresh chopped green onions.

There's also a great place in Philly. It's called Swanky Bubbles. It has got THE MOST AMAZING dish. It's called Japanese Macaroni and Cheese. It's a dinner option. You get a plate full of mac and cheese with crab and lobster. It was incredible. My BF was jealous-he wish he ordered that. I found it funny because he was laughing at me for ordering that.

Also, I saw you asked for directions on the other thread. I will get back to you on that! Getting ready to leave the office for the day! :)

@butrflygirly, this is your workday?

jk. just jealous.

I recalled an article at Steamy Kitchen some months ago and went and looked. Here you go...sounds wonderful!

@Carolrsf I found the recipe and it looks great. Do google search, Food Network, when in the site click recipes and cooking, type in the search box Lobster mac and cheese, then scroll down till you find;
Title- Vegas style mac & cheese grilled w/lobster
Recipe by- Adam Gertler
Show-Next Food Network Star
Episode- Vegas Throwdown
Recipe looks great. let me now if you use this recipe to make dish please.

I prefer crab in Mac and cheese, and have used both the Martha Stewart recipe and *gasp* Stouffers frozen to prepare it. (Hey, once was my first dinner party post-spinal surgery, and the other was in a rental condo in Hawaii with less than stellar kitchen equipment... Pleas forgive my frozen indiscretion!)

I work in a restaurant and we use heavy cream (of course) elbow macaroni and smoked gouda. It is so amazing!

@pjracz10, THANKS! I couldn't find it. I'l let you know how it turns out.

I can't help but be of the opinion that smothering good seafood in heavy cheese and cream sauces is a crime...

@feriorrenna, just a little, for taste...

When my daughter was little she had a very healthy diet. Not strict, just not alot of junk or processed sugar. When I was pregnant with her brother she was seven and I was confined to bed. Her dad would make her breakfast then and when serving her Raisin Bran one day he asked if he should put sugar on it. She shrugged casually (as if she had EVER had sugar on it) and said; "just a little, for taste". Still one of my favorite expressions.

@iz - could you send a a bowlful my way once you make it please?:-) I love mac & cheese, lobster or not, but it's not something I cook often (if at all) as the Other half is lactose intolerant and it seems silly to me to cook something that nobody else will be able to enjoy...sigh. Anyway - enjoy your lobster mac & cheese and don't forget to tell us how it turned out!

@brooke ~ Will do! Our event is on the 20th.
