I put ____ in my yogurt
What do you mix into your yogurt - and what kind of yogurt is your favorite to start out with or eat plain?
I used to be a yogurt purist - no chunks, no fruit, maybe some blended fruit-ness or vanilla.
I've realized recently that I really like things like little cereal pieces or chopped almonds in my yogurt - it gives it little somethin somethin.
I'm still not a fruit chunk yogurt person - no fruit on the bottom cups for me. That said, I do love a good freshly sliced peach or apple DIPPED in my yogurt.
mmm.

I love drizzling honey on the greek yogurt I buy from Trader Joe's. Can't remember the name though.
I like to put granola and a mixture of strawberries and peaches in regular plain yogurt. (found at the local Starbucks).
The only flavor I like from Yoplait is the Key Lime Whips kind.

Frozen berries and handful of granola.
JerzeeTomato at 9:37PM on 09/20/08
Chunky. Always, chunky. Fresh fruit, mostly berries or frozen that is definitely drained. Plain, nonfat yogurt usually drained. Then I add a grain or cereal like Health Valley Organic Oat Bran Flakes, granola rocks. I like Stoneyfield Farms-organic yogurt. I prefer my own concoctions to the manufacturer's.

I love vanilla yogurt with frozen strawberries and blueberries in it. I also like the yoplait key lime whips . yummy !
floridagirl at 10:07PM on 09/20/08
Plain Greek or regular vanilla yogurt with fresh blueberries and/or strawberries. Once in a while, a sliced banana.
baboo at 10:45PM on 09/20/08
I like vanilla yogurt w/ berries and granola. It seems this is the most common way to eat it, according to the comments :)
jenn3250 at 10:48PM on 09/20/08
I like vanilla yogurt with mango chunks, or peach yogurt with fresh peaches.
buffy at 11:17PM on 09/20/08
I use thick greek-style yogurt as sort of a creamy topping over fruit. I love it over pineapple, but melon or peaches or banana are good too. Eventually, it's all sort of mixed together, but it's generally more fruit than yogurt.
dbcurrie at 12:24AM on 09/21/08
l love fage 2 percent, but i'm heavily into goat milk yogurt these days. my usual yogurt add ins are freeze dried mango, walnuts, orange flower water, and succanat {yes, all of them together}.
cybercita at 1:24AM on 09/21/08
Plain I add diced cucs, fresh dill and fresh lemon juice, a dash cumin, salt and pepper. For a flavored fruit yogurt take cup, put a forth of it in bottom, then fav cereal (I use Grapenuts or Granola) keep layering it too almost top and add fresh fruit.

@Paris - That would be the name, TJ's Greek Style Yogurt :D. It's great stuff. Slightly different than Fage but still great on its own merit.
I'm with the chunky crew. The most difficult part of making yogurt, no matter how good, a meal for me is that it's too ... texturally subtle. I'd much rather opt for something crunchy although a yogurt breakfast is definitely better (healthwise) for me. To encourage myself to eat yogurt, I add a little bit of dried fruit (chewyness) and a couple of nuts or granola (the desired crunch). If I'm craving sweetness, I'll add a drizzle of honey. The other day I added a blob of my homemade plum ginger jam and it tasted like Dannon fruit on the bottom yogurt - only better :D.
As for savories - I do tzatziki most times. If I'm looking for a different yogurt dip I'll go off on a tangent and mix it up a little but tzatziki is my favorite savory application for yogurt.
. o O (Isn't there another thread on this somewhere? I've got this feeling of deja vu.)

I love vanilla yogurt or anything berry-based (strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, etc.) mixed with raisins, walnuts, fresh berries or bananas if they're on hand, occasionally granola or cereal, and a dash of cinnamon on top. The cinnamon is key for me whether I have my yogurt plain or with mix-ins; it adds depth to the yogurt and is just simply good for you.
poke87 at 9:10AM on 09/21/08
i make soy yogurt and then add a handful of really good granola. usually honey vanilla, we have a healthfood store locally owned that the owner makes her own every week and you have to be fast to get it, because she only makes small batches and it goes quick.
huneybumper at 9:19AM on 09/21/08
I love diced radish and barely cooked new potato in my yogurt. I go much more towards savory than sweet.
chisai at 9:22AM on 09/21/08
Hmm...I just like plain unflavoured yoghurt. Once in a while I fancy a cup of Yoplait whips Key Lime Pie, Lemon Meringue or Raspberry Mousse, but otherwise, I just really like it plain, with no add-ins.
brooke29 at 10:42AM on 09/21/08
Lately I've been eating plain fat free Fage with the maple-brown sugar flavored Life cereal. It's really good!
Amandarama at 10:43AM on 09/21/08
Fage yogurt (usually full-fat -- I need the dairy fats) over a large bowl of seasonal fruit and berries. Sometimes a little drizzle of honey on top, depending on the sweetness of the fruit. Yesterday it was peaches and a few late raspberries...mmmm....
Julie at 11:01AM on 09/21/08
Mmmm yogurt! I love plain Fage with honey and a generous handful of Kashi granola, any kind. Although I can't lie, I've only just recently found the Fage at my grocery store, so I'm still really a Breyers Fruit-on-the-Bottom girl at heart. =)
kfarrel3 at 12:16PM on 09/21/08
I love Fage or TJs Greek yogurt. The ideal combination for me is some Kashi Go Lean Crunch and a handful of berries. I will also ocassionally do banana and honey if I'm out of berries.
codasco at 3:00PM on 09/21/08
I add agave nectar, nuts, cinnamon, and maybe some fruit if I can find it....
KateRuby at 4:28PM on 09/21/08
I start with fat free Fage Yogurt of course! Sounds like a lot of people do. :)
Things I put in it (not all at once!) include: low calorie cereal, low calorie trail mix, honey, frozen cherries, blueberries, or frozen bananas, maple syrup, a Trader Joe's chocolate wedge, cocoa nibs, nuts, nutmeg or cinnamon.
yummydietfood at 4:49PM on 09/21/08
I'm a pretty plain guy with my yogurt, so generally just granola and some sort of fruit in vanilla yogurt...what can i say, i stick with the classics.
rasellers0 at 7:06PM on 09/21/08
Plains' great.
Add grated carrot, grated cucumber, and toasted comino and celery seed and it's salad.
SallyMutant at 8:59PM on 09/21/08
MMMmmm. I use plain for cooking;
but I do like the vanilla YOP's in the morning,
with my plan vanilla yogurt I love rice crispies or honey bunches of oats;
I will definitely try the grated carrot cucumber salad SallyMutant! Sounds dee-lish! :)
hungrychristel at 10:54AM on 09/22/08
Chopped dates or figs and honey--the same stuff I like to put in my oatmeal.
OneWallKitchen at 11:01AM on 09/22/08
0% Fage, whole foods trail mix with plenty of almonds and a packet of splenda.
misskris15 at 11:33AM on 09/22/08
oh - and also, Fage plus a packet of ranch dressing mix is a great veggie dip.
misskris15 at 11:34AM on 09/22/08
carob molasses on non-fat plain yogurt -- gives a nice, chocolatey start to my mornings =)
Wan Yan Ling at 12:13PM on 09/22/08
I like to top my home made bircher museli with plain non-fat yoghurt (trader joes brand) - a yummy, healthy start to the day.
shazza at 12:40PM on 09/22/08
Maple syrup, honey or agave nectar on plain yogurt.
Marls Barkley at 2:16PM on 09/22/08
GRAPENUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [the crunch holds up]
sakuraa at 2:26PM on 09/22/08
Vanilla yogurt with bananas - my mom used to make me that for an after-school treat 40 years ago, and it's still a fave combo.
Also love juicy berries with plain yogurt, esp. Greek-type, or honey, or a little jam (fig or strawberry best). Berries + granola + Greek yogurt = a hearty breakfast.
On the non-sweet end of the spectrum, diced cucumber + diced tomato + plain yogurt makes a nice salad, can add some fresh mint or dill too.
Also mostly non-sweet: toast some black mustard seeds and unsweetened coconut, dice some banana, mix with plain yogurt. Mmmmm.
benbenberi at 3:46PM on 09/22/08
I'm with sakuraa- grapenuts and a drizzle of honey. bliss!
sbelle at 3:52PM on 09/22/08
@onedaylingers-- how does one get carob molasses? It sounds yummy.
buffy at 4:38PM on 09/22/08
I tend to eat Fage 2% fat yogurt, and usually add flaxseed, wheatgerm, and sometime vanilla protein powder. I love all these suggestions though!
rachelkramerbussel at 4:38PM on 09/22/08
greek yoghurt + mixed nuts, strawberries, and sometimes cereals (that has dried sultanas & peaches in it)!
syunne at 9:52PM on 09/22/08
Vector Cereal!!!
trixbunny at 10:40PM on 09/22/08
Major Grey's Mango Chutney or Mrs. Ball's Hot Chutney mixed into my greek yogurt and spooned over sliced pears. Chopped fresh mint or chopped basil is good, too.
Tzatzikis? Don't get me started . . . yum!
Treva at 12:34AM on 09/23/08
salt - lots - and some water and ice: blender, or shake in martini shaker. ahhhhh.
maqloubeh at 12:57AM on 09/23/08
some vanilla extract and lemon zest adds some ZING to plain greek yogurt...
crumbles at 1:27AM on 09/23/08
aah my thread ran away while I wasn't looking!
I rarely eat yogurt in non sweet things (fruit/cereal). I've used it in a cucumber soup before, and in tzatziki (although I'm not a fan). maybe i'll have to branch out a bit...?
ooh and that carob molasses does sound awesome.
gretchenx5 at 1:58AM on 09/23/08
Today I put Fiber One raisin bran with some kind of oat clusters in my 0% Fage. It was good.
Amandarama at 3:53PM on 09/23/08
Honey, blueberries and granola in vanilla yogurt. Yum!
