Help - How to make desserts without an oven?
Someone help me please. I am without an oven right now but love to bake. I am looking for some stove top desserts to make my family.

It's always too hot to bake for my husband's birthday so he usually gets pralines instead of cake.

Pudding, pudding pie (graham crust, premade), no-bake cookies, chocolate-dipped fruit, crepes, tapioca....

Grill some peaches or pineapple in a grill pan and top with ice cream or frozen yogurt or ice cream.
You can serve that over waffles (waffle maker) or grilled pound cake.

Stuffed crepes, with his fav. filling, ditto w/French toast. Go to bakery and buy a already baked pie shell an fill with choc mousse or fav filling, dessert fondue.

Steamed cakes and puddings, upside down cake in a dutch oven on the barbeque.... Most of the other things I'd think of have already been listed.

crepes are the best... fill them with a fruit compote, nutella, nuts, dulce de leche, mmmmm I also make sherbets and ice creams. How about a granita... i also make fruit sauces to pour over ice cream. I also make this strawberry kanten - it's kind of like a pudding made with agar and apple juice.
Something very traditional in Puerto Rico is a tembleque... a coconut milk custard you make on the stovetop. An Indian dessert - carrot burfi - also is made stove top. Super delicious and tons of nutrition too.
but if you want to indulge... how about some brown rice krispies treats - made with almond butter instead of marshmallows.

There's this recipe for no bake cookies that my boyfriend loves. I'll have to get a hold of it for you. It basically consists of coco powder, butter, oats, peanut butter and some other delicious things. Also, the most obvious no-bake dessert that comes to mind for me is tirimisu. I just made a big pan of it. It's incredibly easy and delicious.

Ina's tiramisu is my go-to recipe for a non-baked dessert. The recipe is so sound, I was able to increase it to serve 100 with no problems.
@supersu75 - I got that very cake recipe in an e-mail yesterday titled The Most Dangerous Cake In The World (because it puts chocolate cake within reach in five minutes). I want to try it for grins today.

No bake peanut butter squares! My friends rave over them and they're always requested. So easy to do with kids, too!
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine
2 cups powdered sugar
1-1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1 cup peanut butter
1-1/2 pkg. (12 squares) (i use Baker's) semi-sweet chocolate
Line a 9x9-inch baking pan with foil, with ends of foil extending over sides of pan. Set aside.
Melt butter. Add sugar, graham cracker crumbs and peanut butter; mix well. Spread into prepared pan.
Microwave chocolate in double-boiler (or microwaveable bowl on high for1-1/2 to 2 min.) until melted, stirring consistently. Cool slightly; pour over peanut butter mixture in pan.
Refrigerate 1 hour or until set (I go into the fridge every 15 minutes or so to cut through the chocolate layer - otherwise the squares will crack/break and not look pretty - this is really necessary).
kraftfoods.com has some great ideas for no-bake desserts.

My favorite all-time stove-top is rice pudding!! I like to go a little wild with my choices of dried fruits (plumped back up in some warm lovely liquid like brandy or for the non-imbibing I've even used warm cran-apple juice) and of course, lots of fresh ground nutmeg sprinkled on top. If you are daring, add a bit of warmed jam (apricot or your favorite) along the side of the serving dish for the cool/warm/creamy contrasts.
I'm pretty fussy when it comes to dried fruits since so many are ruined with sulfur dioxide - NASTY! Thank goodness I have found that Trader Joe's seems to carry a lot of the "unsulfured" so that's where we often go.
Now, my grandmother used to make a dessert called "Glorified Rice" that was lots of heavy whipping cream, white rice and small bits of mandarin oranges, pineapple folded in with and those red maraschino cherries on top. This is more on the side of a fruit salad but I've added fresh & toasted coconut and even halved seedless grapes, fresh cherries/strawberries/blueberries when in season and topped with some toasted slivered almonds for garnish.

Panna cotta, fresh or grilled fruit w/ sweetened greek yogurt or ice cream, poached pears (esp if you're somewhere with new local fall pears), sabayon/sabaglione.
Even just using the last of the summer berries to make an ice cream sauce...mmmm.
SteveB at 5:32PM on 09/12/08
Mmmm, the first thing that comes to mind are homemade puddings, panna cottas, and mousses. So many different flavors you can experiment with, and really delicious. Cream pies might be an idea as well...
Also, what about homemade ice cream? Definitely don't have to bake for that, and in the summer, there's nothing better!

I have a VERY old oven and it heats up the entire house so I only use it on very cold days. I recently wanted to make some muffins for a sick friend so I pulled out the toaster oven and put the batter in paper muffin cups because a regular muffin tin is too large. They came out great! A small pan could be used to make a cake.

Chocolate mousse!!! Here's my recipe:
Melt 3 T rum or sherry with 1 T sugar
In separate pan, melt 2 T butter with 4 ounces bitter or semi-sweet chocolate
Take off heat, and mix 3 T whipping cream to the chocolate mixture. Mix everything together.
Fold in 2 stiffly-whipped eggwhites, then fold in 2 cups fresh-whipped cream. Refridgerate for at least 4 hours. Heaven.

Does anyone know of a no bake drop cookie recipe consisting of peanut butter, chocalate and oatmeal, made hot and dropped on wax or parchment paper to cool? Very popular early 1960's?
