Funky diner for birthday in NYC
I want to rent out a crummy diner for a night for a birthday party on the 27th. Considering The Lexington Candy Shop, but was wondering if anyone had a better idea. Will need it for 2-3 hours, Manhattan or Brooklyn.
Cheers,
Norman

that's pretty soon - otherwise I'd suggest the Empire Diner. hard to make it worth a diner's while to close completely - what about a back room someplace? I love Hope & Anchor in Red Hook, Brooklyn.

I agree with eleeb....but try Moonstruck on the west side....they have a back area maybe you could get them to close off...

both too good!
i want something older/dumpier
Lexington charges $200 per hour after the regular closing

it's too bad the Cheyenne closed/was moved to Red Hook (and hasn't reopened yet). I see your pt - Lex may be your best bet, then, since they close so early. Eisenberg's coffee shop on lower Fifth? Or some other establishment that only does breakfast/lunch. The 24 hour places aren't going to do this for you.

I went for my birthday to Jimmy's No. 43 on 7th Street. They have a cool, funky vibe, a sustainable food menu & a room with a little stage. Jimmy is pretty acommodating too.

jimmy's is great, but definitely not a crummy diner

Perhaps Academy Restaurant in Ft. Greene. On Lafayette and S. Elliot Place. Standard diner fare, and easy access from Atlantic Ave./Pacific St. station. I don't think they're open for dinner, but maybe they'll do something special...
