FN has a Revamped Web Site

I just popped into FN.com to grab a recipe out of my recipe box and got a little blown away. I was greeted with a very colorful, appetizing home page. I didn't have time to thoroughly surf it, but it appears to much more user-friendly and interesting. My eyes popped open when I saw a recipe box on the home page entitled "Serious Eats". Under the header were a list of recipes. Did I miss something? Is there a collaberation underway? I went back in to look at it more closely (15 minutes later) and it had disappeared. Maybe I'm seeing things, but I doubt it. Anyone else see the box in question? What's your overall opinion of the new site?

I just looked and my first overall impression is that it's red instead of green. New logo color theme?

Anyway, I just hope they fixed the search function. It used to be really easy to pick a show and then search for a recipe from a particular show, but then they changed it so that took more steps to get there.

Seems to me that I saw a Serious Eats link on the FN page quite some time ago, but I don't remember what it was about, exactly.

It's much harder to search now! I do hope they fix it.

It's about time. I am a fan of green but that old design threw me a great big BLADOW right out of my seat every time I needed to navigate to TVFN.

As for searching and using the site - OMG, it loads at a snail's pace and I have a fast connection. It's very herky jerky as it loads. The search by show is at the lower right corner vs. the left side where it used to be.

As much as I like the design and color, it kind of reminds me of when supermarkets change their aisles. I'm not going to buy (or browse) more and all that really gets accomplished is general annoyance. Would it have killed them to change the design but keep things somewhat close to where people expect to find them?

i know people are always quick to judge revamped sites but apparently, i am one of them. ha. i hate that it just seems so much more commerical -- every time i go to a page some promo video automatically starts up (i am clicking on jamie at home -- i don't want to watch a huge commercial for aida! plus i am at work, i don't want to make it obvious i'm not working!). also they do sponsored results before the recipes and it's confusing how they mix the results. last gripe -- when you search for a recipe, click on one, then click back, it says there is no data. maybe that's google chrome's fault?

I wonder why they are so slow to load? No broadband in this little corner of my town so it is just agonizing to look up recipes. I can think of other sites (newspapers for instance) which seem just as complicated but load so much faster. Is it a moneysaving move on FN's end?

Not sure yet about the new format. I went to a recipe today, where "serious eats" was on the right margin...clicked on and found myself here.

Regarding the FN new website being slow. Could be any number of things, but most likely cause their just getting hit a lot. In addition the usual candidates, bandwidth, server size, also how they actually built the site.

Googles new browser - Chrome - (which is currently beta) may help. Has been built to optimize the web experience. Dont' get me wrong I'm not advocating it's use, but will say that it is quicker and more responsive.
