Breakfast cookies

When I was in Italy the hotels served a variety of delicious cookies as part of their continental breakfast. The cookies were kind of like Stella Dora Breakfast Treats but fresher and tastier. They were the perfect way to ease into the day. I've looked for similar cookies in Little Italy but so far I've had no luck. I've found cookies that look similar but they've been tasteless and rock hard -like biscotti. Does anyone know a good source for Italian style breakfast cookies in NYC?

You do not have to twice bake it. You can unscotti. I never twice bake mine. I bake them once and cut them and then leave some out so they get hard. I am not a dunker thats why.
If you make the S cookies or the crumari and serve them fresh or within a day or so keep them in a tight container they will be nice and fresh.

Heh. I saw the title of the this post and thought it might be about the time-honored tradition of eating Oreos for breakfast. And by time honored, I mean, I'm in college and haven't gone grocery shopping for weeks.

As for the Italian cookies, I see that you've tried Little Italy with no luck. How about restaurant suppliers for Italian cafes or bakeries?

Yum thanks for the recipe JerzeeTomato, I'll give it a try.

I don't know if you're willing to come out to Brooklyn but Royal Crown
6512 Fourteenth Avenue in bay ridge (which has arguably the best bread in the city) there are some awesome breakfasty cookies that are very plain and perfect for coffee. the S shaped ones as well as the scone like ones with raisins and chocolate chips are fantastic.

I'm very willing to travel for awesome breakfasty cookies. I'll check them out.

that's mighty specific for a cookie. i would think any cookie is good for breakfast. this morning i had oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. four of them. mmmm... breakfast...

lol Lilly! That college breakfast sounds interchangeable with the time-honored pregnant lady breakfast.

I hear ya buffy! Tira mi su was my fave pregnant breakfast.

What's wrong with cookies for breakfast--lots of people eat doughnuts, danish (or sugary cereals) for breakfast--chocolate muffins, pancakes, waffles with ice cream or jam...heck, farmers used to eat apple pie or other fruit pies in the morning. An Italian cookie versus a Starbucks drink probably looks petite.

I haven't had cake for breakfast regularly since my grad student days (ah, memories of a more calorically carefree youth). And no I wasn't pregnant at the time, and sadly, I often had gone shopping and had better options at hand ;)
