Bitter watermelon?
Last weekend I bought a yellow seedless watermelon at the farmer's market. It was delicious--sweet and crisp, even a little floral. All week I've been looking forward to enjoying another one.
But I was in for a nasty surprise. Today I bought the same kind of melon from the same grower, but it was extremely bitter. Completely inedible. Has anyone else had this happen? What causes it? Any advice on avoiding it in the future?

How sad! I never heard of such a thing.

There is nothing more dissapointing than bad melon. I did that same thing once, from the farmers market.....ended up throwing it out, and never going back. Now that's sad.

Sometimes a lack of water will cause off-flavors in produce. Also, there could be a mineral or something else in the soil or water.
