The Cooking Loft.....what did you think?
Just finished watching the cooking loft. I liked it. Although she covered alot of the basic cooking techniques that you see on FN 20 times a day (after all she is trying to teach a loft full of students), in the end she made some pretty interesting dishes. What won me over was her genuine personality. She didn't sound as scripted as some of the other hosts on FN. what did you think?

Liked it a lot. She reminded me of Ina in a way, rather quiet and calm. The students clearly liked her too.

Dang! Missed it... Will catch a repeat (based on comments here).

I missed it too - woke up as the final credits were running... (In my defence, I only fell asleep round 5 am). I'm certainly curious now though, so I may set my Tivo to record it next week.

I only caught the first 10 minutes but I really liked her. I don't know when this will be re-run as TVFN is a little stingy with their NEW food programming on the weekends. Still waiting for Burrell reruns.

Loved it! She does remind me of Ina. BTW, where is Ina??!! (Did I miss an anouncement?) I love the cooking class format. I like this so much better than Cookworks (the former cooking class show.).
On another note, I see that Guy is getting a show with a studio audience 'bout time!

i actually thought she reminded me of a cross between Giada and Lidia Bastianich.

Darn! I totally missed it! I, too, am hoping fot speedy re-runs. It sounds like something I would really enjoy.
As for the new Guy show ... Is it just me, or does it appear to be much like the "old" Emeril Live? Hmmm... I'm just wonderin' ...

I watched the cooking loft just before work yesterday, I couldnt wait to get home and make her caramel tomatos! they are awesome, although I roasted mine for 40 min, my oven goes wonky occasionally. I truly hope FN considers doing more of this type of cooking show. Less grunting and screaming and more honest low key teaching!

I liked it immensely and am totally making those caramel tomatoes! Who knew one could caramelize tomatoes?!

Hey, Guys...I missed those caramel tomatoes and I don't see them listed on the website. Can you give me the recipe? Please?????

Darn, I missed it too but saw her recently on Iron Chef. Her demeanor definitely reminds me of Ina -- not frenetic. Incidentally, Lydia was one of the judges on that episode.

I am torn on this one. Whenever I see Alex, I am reminded of when she was a contestant on the Thanksgiving Dinner Food Network Challenge (she didn't win). She seemed to have a mental breakdown during the competition. She was crying in front of the judges saying how hard it was for her to have her food judged in front of her. She completely lost it. I find it hard to take her serious as a judge on Iron Chef because of it.
That said, I though what she was making looked very good and will probably try one of her recipes.

@GolfGirl...I had totally forgotten about that! She did have a meltdown, didn't she! Oh well.
I like her show and actually felt inspired to cook her recipes - something I haven't felt from a FN show in a long time.

i just caught one show, found the student concept contrived, everything was very scripted and the slow speech pattern made it even more so - i bet Alex Guarnaschelli has a lot more personality than she's shown in that tomato episode. maybe she can relax into it over time and feel more comfortable, be more natural. the tempo is a little slow for me - sorry but Ina puts me to sleep - i like more energy.
my least favorite part was how she was shot - the camera is too close and she looked a little scary - the eyes & eyebrows movements made her look a little strange and the chest was distracting. too close for me, and it took away from the cooking part.

I watched the show and really like it. I certainly plan to try a couple of her recipies. I like the entire concept. It's not as fast paced as many other cooking shows. It would be nice to see different students attending her cooking classes.

Enlighten me girls. I just stopped working and was not able to watch much TV, before. Now, I am loving watching the FN station, but sometimes I get the feeling it used to be better, or something. I must have missed the new cooking loft show, I will look for that, I was probably sleeping. I have seen Guy cooking before, not just eating( I worry he is going to have a heart attack) This Alex ,how did she get her own show, if she didn't win, and why is she a judge on Iron Chef, am I lacking confidence,or just nosey!!
cocoloco at 6:44PM on 09/15/08
Alex has everything and more than most celebrity chefs. Her love of cooking came from her mother, who is a famous cookbook editor in New York. She went to culinary academy in France and stayed on, learned the language, to work under Guy Savoy in Paris before paying her dues at the finest restaurants in NY (Daniel..) She is passionate about food, loves to teach others, runs a fabulous restaurant in NYC and has a dry sense of humor that will connect with lots of viewers.

Wow, I went on and on...and I haven't seen the show yet but know you will grow to love her!
