Picholine

I recently got a gift certificate to Picholine. Have you been there recently and if so, what do you recommend?

My friend, the Ulterior Epicure, dined there recently:

Not recently, but I highly recommend the excellent cheese cart. Once the cheese sommelier learned that I had a serious cheese jones, she brought out some "barely legal" (64 days) and highly stinky raw milk cheese from France (cannot recall the name) that was spectacular!

Picholine is one of my all time food regrets . . . I should have ordered the white truffle risotto when I was there some Decembers ago, but I could not afford the $120 per plate charge back then. I would like another crack at it . . .

Thanks for your recommendations and the links! I appreciate them.

i nabbed one of those $50 anniversary gift cards...still wouldn't be able to afford splitting two meals with someone else, but i'm thinking of going on my own to keep the costs downish.

@SarahLucy...that's what I was thinking, too! I'll sit at one table by myself and you sit at another, and we'll chat across the dining room!

I might go this Saturday for lunch/dinner or for a wine and cheese tasting.

@ladymarmalade: hahaha, is it sad that the thought actually crossed my mind, of having a friend getting a card too and just sitting near each other at separate tables? the answer is yes, yes it is.

and lunch! genius idea. less expensive?

@sarahlucy - from what I can tell, yes, lunch is less expensive. I will bring the megaphone so that you can hear me, or we can compare notes via cell phone/text. hehehehehe

Oops, my bad. They don't serve lunch. I could get small plates, though.

We ate there and were so very excited to go as we had heard how great it was........the service was horrible and the food wasn't that great..........so disappointed that we haven't been back in 2 years or more.....
