Ok, so what would you NOT eat?

Ok, we've heard the list of foods we all should try at least once....but what's on your list of foods you would never try?

List them below. Here's mine:

-dog
-whole insects
-roadkill
-fugu (out of fear of being poisioned)
-curried goat (just sounds gross to me)
-snake

Hilary,
I've had the whole insects, curried goat and snake--
you won't miss all that much in my opinion.
(Goat especially tastes musky to me and smells of a barn).

I agree with your roadkill and fugu listings and would add:
- cat
- elephant (seems wrong)
- bologna
- north american hot dogs
- half-developed embrios (from any species...eeew)

I'll try almost anything......with maybe 2 exceptions
1. Roadkill
1. Balut

It'll try anything...I mean ANYTHING, with the exception of roaches.

Of course, if it's steeped in garlic and onions, I won't even touch it -- but that's a different topic. :)

All of these things you guys are naming are food items not even on the radar of most Americans. There's a pretty decent sized list of some conventional things that I won't try:

Liver.
Spam or canned "meat" of any kind.
Headcheese.
Brains; my southern boyfriend's family eats them with scrambled eggs and my Mexican dad eats them in tacos- gross.
Cheese Wiz or Velveeta.

I'm sure there are a few others, but that's just what immedietly comes to mind.

I have to mention here- I have had some AMAZING **curried goat- in fact I'm drooling just thinking bout it. **Jamaican style with coconut rice & black beans- the spice cuts that "barn" taste.
But as for my no-go list:
Roadkill
Eyeball anything
Pickled feet
Balls- nope I won't eat balls- and we got em here in the Rockies.
Durian- only on reputation alone not through any experience
I'm sure there's a thousand other things I wouldn't eat- these are just toppers of the list.

@onepercent--my husband grew up in the Philippines and he won't eat Balut, either.
As for me, I won't eat anything that comes off of a pig. Also mushrooms, liver, any kind of insect, or basically anything that would appear on Fear Factor. Come to think of it, I believe Balut was on the show once.

Cube steak
animal penises (sorry, Bourdain & Zimmern)
mackerel
Spam

Sea Urchin. I know some people love it, but I just can't do it.
Jelly fish. Only because I can't imagine how you would prepare it.
Organ meats. Again- either you love them or you hate them.
Mayo-can't get past the smell.
Oysters
Cream of wheat--it's just mushy.

that's a very long list, as I'm as picky as a child... it's probably a shorter list to say what I WOULD eat.

Everything that everyone has mentioned above except I will eat Spam, Velveeta cheese, cheese whiz, some parts of a pig, headcheese, Europeon bologna and good quality hotdogs. The other things I will not eat is gizzards, anthing game, lamb, oysters, tripe, octopus, squid, mussels, clams, most any kind of fish, tomatos, sea urchins, escargot, rabbit and anything with beets in them.

A lot of the stuff listed here is literally some of my favorite foods!

I'm witchas, BangieB. Leaves more for us.

@bitter.........what's wrong with cubed steak?

I lived 16 months in South Korea and LOVE Korean food . . . except for BUNDAEGI . . . that putrid stench wafting from a few sidewalk stands in the cooler months - hot roasted larvae served up in a paper cone. People would just snack on it like popcorn. My innards would go into spasms at the first aroma. I thought I'd conquer this one and make myself try it, since I've had no problem eating other "unusual" foods, until I saw one unfortunate man empty his entire stomach contents into the street after trying one.

Puffin heart (or any other part of a puffin)
Cat
Dog
Horse...you'll never hear me say that I'm so hungry I could eat a horse
Most organs from most animals
Chitlins/chitterlings
Roadkill

I'm with yankeesgal!

Anything with bundaegi-- the soup or in a cup, no thanks, silk worms aren't my thing

It's everywhere here, ew

animal flesh, insects, offal
most processed foods
anything reheated or cooked in a plastic or styrofoam container
hydrogenated fats
anything containing gluten

@onepercent - re: cubed steaks - it is just that I ate them so much as a kid that I can't stand the sight of them now. Just like I despise Spam 'cause I ate so, so much of it in the US Navy; I can't look at it without getting nauseous....

tofu
tripe
most organ of any kind, from any end...
tongue
sushi no matter how pretty it looks
any pet grade animal, (kitties, puppies, horses, guinea pigs)
and brussel sprouts!

- Anything alive at the time I'm eating it
- Any primates
- Any animals that have shown the ability to think in the abstract (dolphin, elephant)

Balut
Andouilette/Chitterlings

Everything else is fair game.

I second the balut! Make that anything used as a challenge food on Survivor or Fear Factor. We were watching an old episode lest night where family members had to eat things to try and spend 24 hrs with the contestant. I just about lost my dinner when they got to the tarantulas...

Oh, and anything I see alive before I am expected to consume that exact creature (no, do NOT bring the lobster to the table first; I don't care how impressive it is!!!)

rancid meat with maggots
rat pate
unwashed intestines of any animal
40 year old can of underwood deviled ham
soda bread
rice krispies with orange juice instead of milk
human toes

Balut is a little too much for me. Beyond that, I'll try just about anything.

(As an aside: I'm amused to see how many folks won't eat roadkill. I grew up eating many a deer killed by a car - if it's fresh and relatively intact, what's the problem?)

I would pretty much try anything once. I am pretty weary of domesticated pets, however. I also am afraid of the side effects of eating rancid meat after seeing what it did to one of my best friends. She hadn't realized that her lunch meat had been expired for almost two months!

What is balut? I wouldnt eat any animal that is considered a pet ie: cat, dog, etc.. or any animal that is zoo like.. elephant etc.. Goat and lamb taste musky too. Eeewwwww! Other than that its all pretty much good. Boiled okra is a bit too slimy too.

@floridagirl - I have only seen it on TV, but I believe balut is a duck embryo pretty close to hatch time.

I have had curried goat, and it's delicious.

from the list? roadkill. thats just plain unspeciphic, and whatever animal it was I would try NOT dead and festering on the side of the road. I live in Louisiana, and seen my fair shair of busted-armadillo meatspots. I try to call myself an omnivore, but I would only eat that if I were to die otherwise. its just not food to me.

I am indecisive about fugu. I really don't know. I might.

I'm pretty much open for anything I guess! My boyfriend and I decided to go on a life long mission to collectively find out what everything tastes like. So far all he has done to contribute is dip chips-ahoy cookies in various liquids- jack daniels, apple juice, green tea, and coke.
