Friday Night Drinks

Hello all! I'm drinking a delicious 2002 Argentinian Malbec. It's cold and rainy so it fits. I've had a really tough week, which called for a special bottle...

What are you drinking this Friday night?

How timely! I just opened a Chateau St. Jean Fume Blanc. It was a gift from some folks we had to dinner last week. They told me not to open for dinner while they were here. Okay, I will enjoy it Friday night I said. So, here I sit all alone waiting for DH to return from a hard day at work. Poor guy. He is not going to get his fair share!! I know it isn't a ta da wine, but it is tasty and I like it.

My tastes aren't so refined, but then again I'm young and broke- so it's allowed. On a Friday night I'll have Crown and Coke ... or Wild Turkey and Coke ... or Jack Daniels and Coke-you get the gist of it: Some kind of bourbon/whiskey with Coke.

Oh, is it time for the friday night SE cocktail party? I'm in! I bought some fresh mint and ginger root today, so think I'll concoct some sort of martini....maybe muddle the ginger and mint, add some lemon juice, voddy and a little simple syrup or triple sec for sweetness. I usually make a ginger lemon martini, but wanted to add a little something this time.

Cheers everyone! :)

I want to go to your party, StripeyChef! Sounds delicious.

It was in the 90s today, so I have a large glass of a lightly chilled Tempranillo rose wine.

Hi Tellicherry- c'mon over! Bring your Rose~ my cocktail glasses don't discriminate.

Ok, it's very tasty (and pretty!). Next time I'll make a ginger simple syrup....needs a tiny bit more sweetness.

Hey, does anyone have a good white sangria recipe?

Chateau Bellevue 2002

Waaaaah!
My cupboard is bare (well, the bar part...) and I don't feel like going to the store and the DH is out of town so I can't have him go.
Guess I will have a big glass of 'whine'. :D

White sangria--yummy.
Dry white wine
Ginger ale or white grape juice
cognac
peach schnapps or apricot brandy
shot of lime juice
sliced nectarines and/or peaches
Sectioned oranges (if desired)
Granny smith apple, sliced
Berries or other fruits as you like

I can drink this stuff by the gallon....mmmmm

@sadiepix- thanks so much! Have been wanting to make that and did not have a good recipe. Can't wait to try it out! Oh, and as a red wine drinker, when you say dry white, is that a chardonnay? What kind do you use?

@StripeyChef: How do you make your ginger simple syrup? Do you steep the ginger in the water before adding the sugar?

@Stripey- I tend to use Pinot Grigio, as I prefer it, but a good dry Chardonnay would be fine too.
Yum!

@tellicherry- I usually make ginger infused vodka (just sliced fresh ginger in bottle of voddy, let sit for a few weeks). For the simple syrup, try the following:

You can store this in the fridge and it is great on fresh fruit (as in the recipe above) or even in iced tea.

@sadiepix- thanks! I will try it with the Pinot Grigio.

Bon Appetit did a great article about sangria this year, can't remember which month, but it was great with a lot of different wines, I seem to remember whites, and a Spanish liquor I had never heard of.

My fave for cockttail parties is a vodka bar. It is such a versatile liquor, with 50/50,juice , etc

Babies .......then everynight is Friday night to me, cheers!!!!!
