Dinosaur Plums?
Can someone tell me exactly what a dinosaur plum is? I've read it is really a pluot, and I'm curious. I bought some at Fairway last week and they are incredibly good, much better than regular red or black plums. Thanks!

I googled. Looks like they are pluots. I was once a reference librarian and can't resist a question!

They're plums from the Cretaceous preserved in amber until the present day, when scientists have finally unleashed their ancient deliciousness on the world.

not gmo, but certainly engineering, a cross between plum/apricot or apricot/plum. hence, pluot and sometimes apriums. they're good tho.

They are pluots - a Frankenfruit of plum and apricot. Regardless of their shady beginnings, I love the things. I remember when they were called "dinosoar eggs" which I thought was a much prettier name than "pluot."

Floyd Zaiger is the inventor (& namer) of all stone fruit hybrid pairings. Naming these hybrids, just like all other naming, is tricky & patented business.
When other growers rename named fruit it confuses consumers.
The word pluot is actually the name of only one sort of hybrid, it is not an umbrella name for all stone fruit paired hybrids. There's also apriums, plumcots, and apriplots.
