Boston Eats, nice but not crazy

Anyone have a suggestion for a close to Back Bay evening out with very good friends?

There are some nice, small places on Charles Street:
Figs (Todd English-owned pizza, pasta, salad), Artu (small, Italian place - they also have a location in the North End), and Bin 25 Enoteca (has gotten a lot of good buzz.)

I second Artu!

Do yourself a favor and swing by the North End for some gelato at Gelateria - the best ending to your dinner!

Mr Crepes in Davis Square! They're open all day- great savory and sweet crepes and coffee to boot

There are lots of great places to eat in the Back Bay: Bouchee (add accent mark as needed), Douzo, Via Matta, Great Bay, Kashmir Indian Restaurant, Casa Romero, and Atlantic Fish Company are some that come to mind.

p.s. -- Figs and Artu are great, but they're located in Beacon Hill, not Back Bay.

keeping with the charles st. tips (i know beacon hill, not back bay, but aokay did say CLOSE to back bay, which bh is) if you keep going down charles, to the end near the T station, there's a thai place, the king and i, i believe? exxxceelllent. and paramount! and the bread place near the end of charles, forget the name, awesome brunch. figs as well. sigh, i remember living in the emerson college dorms, on beacon st. a few blocks down from charles, such good eats, dumpster diving for upper crust pizza...

mr. crepes in davis is okay, but not worth the trek from the back bay! the sandwiches at dave's fresh pasta (also in davis), however, ARE worth the T ride. i still miss those babies...

Scoozi (more casual, pizza and salad) and Tapeo (tapas) are both right on Newbury Street. The Melting Pot (a fondue restaurant) just opened at 76 Arlington Street - some friends went to the opening and said it was great. Vox is on Boylston Street - I hear good things but have never eaten there. Sonsie is always spot-on.

If you go right next door to Back Bay and end up in the South End, there is a whole slew of fantastic places on Tremont Street - Metropolis Cafe, B&G Oyster, Masa, Hamersley's... A little more expensive over there, but quite worth it!

If you do end up in the South End, a great not-too-expensive place is Addis Red Sea (Ethiopian food). Really fantastic food.

Addis Red Sea is amazing. When I was living in Boston, I always took guests there. You can enjoy the walk through the South End and Back Bay.
Avoid Newberry. Its expensive and touristy and there are much better places to eat in Boston.
