Bloody Mary Bar

We're going to the cabin this weekend and I'd really like to set up a bloody mary bar. What is essential? (I'm down with DIY but will probably buy tomato juice rather than make my own...)

19 Comments:

Horseradish, tabasco, worcestershire sauce, fresh ground pepper and celery. Cheers:) oh and vodka...duh.

Organic Tomato Juice
Ketel One (Grey Goose is too good to mix!)
Worcestershire Sauce
Tabasco
Celery Salt
(Clamato for "Clammy Mary")

Pickled Asparagus
Pickled String Beans
Pickled Baby Carrots
Boiled Shrimp (for garnishing a "Clammy Mary")
Celery stalks
Any other appropriate garniture you can think of!

Pickled peppers!

@therealchiff-I'm of the opinion that Kettle One is too good for something like Bloody Mary.

The Bloody Mary Bar at Jack Kent Cooke Stadium is pretty cool. As I recall there were several vodkas: Absolut, Stoli, Smirnoff, Svedka. A pepper vodka like Stoli Peppar or Absolut Pepper add a little ooomph for the hot-heads. All good vodkas, but won't be wasted by mixing with such a strong flavored mixer.

All the above suggestions are good. I would add Old Bay Seasoning. Also, have on hand a premixed bloody mary mix for those who are not up to the task of making their own or those who would rather SandraLee it.. Lime and lemon wedges. Caper Berries (not capers). Jumbo stuffed Olives. Definitely celery stalk. Tabasco. Worcestershire. Horeseradish. Black Pepper. This is going to sound weird, but I have seen A-1 at Bloody Mary bars. Oh, and plenty of ice. People always run of ice.

Something to rim the glasses with like a coarse spicy steak rub!

The hot and spicy version of V-8 is also good for those who want to start out with a little semi-hammered, I mean semi-homemade, mixer and just tweak the add-ons.

The bf calls Clammy Marys "Bloody Caesars." I'm not really a fan of the whole "clam broth" idea, myself.

Here are the ingredients to a delicious Bloody Mary:

5 oz. good tomato juice (such as Sacramento)
1 1/2 oz. fresh orange juice
Juice of 1 lime
1 Tbs. Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. Pickapeppa sauce from Shooter's Hill
1/2 tsp. Tabasco
1-2 drops Angostora bitters
Freshly ground black pepper or 1 piquin chile, crushed
Pinch of sea salt
3 oz. 90 proof or better tequila
2 celery sticks with some leaves, trimmed to fit glasses (optional)
Crushed ice

Chew on That

So many good suggestions already, I don't have much to add - except that we enjoy V8 in our bloodies, you may want to make that an option.

Big fat green olives and my fave pickled okra!

I like to rim the glass with a mix of kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper. This may be heresy, but I really like Mr. & Mrs. T's Bloody Mary Mix.

Here's another idea you could use...Make sure you have alternatives to the Bloody Mary for those that don't like it (I would fall into that category). Maybe a Mimosa or Coffee with Alcohol. Thinking maybe an Irish Coffee...Hot Choc with a twist.

Enjoy and have fun!!

I like horseradish in mine. Also tabasco now comes in lime or garlic flavors I always put out both.

I work all day to get to my bloody caesar!!! I am so addicted to clamato it's crazy. I only make it with absolute peppar that makes it spicy not black pepper. celery salt, worcheshire sauce and lemon. There are store bought rimmer spices available too. (As a matter of fact my work day is done andI'm sipping one now! Yummy)

Think I'm going to need to print out this thread!!

I would add stuffed olives to the list. I prefer mine stuffed with gorgonzola for Bloodies, but other options are bleu cheese, roquefort, goat cheese (plain or herbed), shredded swiss, pimiento cheese (for the southern effect), almonds or pickled garlic.

I also like to have a selection of hot sauces - green and red Tabasco, Louisiana, some kind of chipotle sauce, and a really hot sauce like Inner Beauty. Multiple horseradishes can be nice, e.g. regular and cream style.

Also, sometimes either a cooked butterflied shrimp for the rim is nice or for creative swizzle sticks, dill pickle spears or beef jerky sticks. If you really want to go all the way, offer raw oysters for shooters!

The brand Zing Zang is a very good ready made mix , spicy !

I like spicy V8 veggie juice, has a zing to it, but whatever's to ones taste. Then I add celery salt, garlic powder, lemon and lime juice, horseradish sauce, worcestershirer, red wine vinigar, tabasco, a dash of dijon mustard and A-1. I don't have measurements, I add little at a time and add as needed Mix it all up put into container. I like to premake this and put into the refidge for a couple days so everything marrys. As for bar day have reg vodka and infused vodkas (if you want), plenty of ice, tabasco sauce and a pepper grinder. For garnishes: lemon/lime slices, celery stalks, olives, spicy/pickled veggies, whatever you want. If you really want to go all out, cooked jumbo prawns.

House Of Blues has a great Bloody Mary. First of all, it's frozen.
It is spice rimmed (salt mixed with some red pepper power and the like)
and has a celery stalk that doubles as a holder for all the other fixings-- olives, dill pickle, a big hunk of pepper jack cheese and a spicy yellow pepper... all hugged by a slice of spicy pepperoni. It was perfect.

Absolut Peppar is great if you can find it.

@smile That slice of pepperoni sounds like that would hit the spot. Next time I make one I will have to add that, thanks.
