Bid Daddy's House

So what did y'all think about Aaron's new show? I thought he did a great job (even though he didn't tell us to let the pork loin rest). Good beginning!

Did I miss something or did he use Doritos on those chicken strips? That really turned me off. His oven fries looked pretty good.

Are you kidding me? Will not see this show going forward much. Should be called OIL ME ! Everything he did was so amateur. His measurements..not letting meat rest. ( or atleast mentioning to do it...) oil everywhere...including dripping down his chin...after reading blogs elsewhere ( and seeing he pretty much pre-determined winner ) this is a disaster.

Aaron was clearly the pre-determined winner this year. All series long the judges talked up his strengths and glossed over his weaknesses, including a glaring lack of technical food knowledge, allegedly the reason the judges dismissed several contestants. His performance on the second Vegas episode was a complete disaster, both his cooking and his performance, yet they made a special exception to have all 3 contestants back for the final. Where they had their "pilits" produced by Gordon Elliot, who produces Down Home with The Neelys. Clearly FN saw Aaron as a way to piggy bank on the success of that show. Seems like a nice guy and apparently some of the food he cooked on NFNS was really good, but he lacks communication skills and I don't see anything innovative or particuarly interesting about his food. The judges yapped all season about "culinary point of view." Aaron's, excuse me, "Big Daddy's," is "big bold flavors." What the heck does that mean? Bottom line, this show will be no worse, no better than all the other filler on the FN.

I was very surprised that I liked this show. I don't think I'll make any of the recipes, but I think he did a great job on camera, MUCH better than his appearances on NFNS.

I think the Doritos and tortilla chips would hold great appeal to kids, and that's who he geared that menu towards, his sons. No, it's not the healthiest way to eat, but it's putting together different flavors, and he put the strips on top of a salad which did have healthy components.

I agree it's no better or worse than most of what's on Food Network these days, I'm a huge fan of Emeril's new show on Planet Green and my mom wishes FN would have a show like that, but they are obviously playing to the Kraft and Betty Crocker crowd.

To be honest if they would pair together Anne Burrell's food with Aaron's personality and ease on camera, I think that would make a great show.

I liked it. I like Aaron; he seems like a great guy who can cook well. I like the fact that he was cooking for kids, and emphasized one or two safety tips when cooking with kids in the kitchen. It wasn't haute cuisine, but I don't care - I don't watch Food Network to learn to make Thomas Keller's recipes. I just want to know how to use the stuff I have to make something decent to eat, and I think Aaron is going to be good for that.

It looks like he's going after some of the same audience as Guy Fieri (even though Guy's food isn't for kids), at least in part, but his recipes are simpler. To me, that's good. I'm going to give him a chance.

I think Aaron did a great job. This was his first show and I loved how he focused on cooking with your kids. Kids love chicken tender and tortilla chips. What a good idea adding it to a salad and making good food fun. If I were to try this recipe for my son I might try cooking them in the oven instead of frying. I am making his fries for dinner this week....yummy....

Everyone should give him a chance. He is humble guy trying something new. Let him get his "feet wet" and see what happens. He might surprise you.....Frankly I am tired of Emeril, Ina, Paula, and Rachel Rey....New blood and ideas are great.....go Aaron!!!!!!!!!

Tired of Ina??? Never.

He still looked a little nervous to me, and he's still got some problems talking and working at the same time. Like, he's got smoke billowing out of his pan, and he's holding the meat with tongs and talking about it. Either get it in the pan, or turn down the heat. If you've got grapeseed oil smoking that much, that pan in plenty hot enough.

And there were a blunders that I wish they would have fixed with editing. For instance, the big reason you don't want the kiddies eating the chips is that raw chicken has been rolling around in there. People who let their kids lick the beaters after making cake or cookies aren't worried about a little raw egg. Raw chicken is another story.

The other thing I wish they would have fixed was his babbling about the chopped garlic in oil. He never mentioned whether he made that batch an hour ago or whether he had it stored in the fridge for a week so he could cultivate some botulism. Considering these shows are catering to a lot of inexperienced cooks, I really think they ought to have mentioned that you shouldn't store fresh chopped garlic in oil.

All of that could have been fixed with editing, so it's not entirely his fault. We'll see what they do with him from here. The next few shows ought to tell the tale.

I thought he did a good job too. You can nitpick any cooking show for oversights or assumptions, so I don't get caught up on a less than perfect script.

I wish a director would've held up a sign behind camera that said, "WIPE YOUR HANDS" after he finished mixing greasy seasoning on the fries - that was a little gross. Same thing for when the stream of grease poured out of his ginormous inverted sandwich thing. I mean I guess the idea is that kids don't mind covering their faces in grease so why not do it with a succulent stack of food.

I'll keep watching for now. Sadly, it's not the worst show on FN by a longshot.

With all of the "Freeze Frame", "Voice Over", "Cinema Verite", "Stop Action" DIZZYING EFFECTS to try and save a poor cooking show, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences better be prepared for this years awards with a NEW category...

"Best Editing of a Big Daddy Using Expensive (Compared to Vegetable Oil) Grapseed Oil to Fry"

Someone should tell Sandra Lee that TVFN has a new item for her to stock in her Pantry.... "Doritos"! Hey, why not tell Ms. Yummo and Paula too - - sounds right up their alley!

Here's to Healthy Eating to All....on the TVFN

P.S. Not there is anything wrong with Doritos...!

I think I like the show, not to mention he is handsome and fun to watch. I liked the cooking that he did with his boys. Nice to finally have a new flavor in the mix.
Overall I'm glad he won.
It's way better than that new show with freaky miss Neely, down home and out the door show. I can't even watch their commercial.

I liked the show. I think his Steak AuPoirve looked delicious. I must have missed the Dorito thing. I personally think Doritos smell like feet... but thats me. I do like the idea of including the kids in the kitchen. I think that is a great dynamic for FN to put into a show. I also think Aaron brings a lot of enthusiasm and personality to his show.
I dont much care for the Neely's either. They seem kind of snobby. I started to feel that way about them after they were judges on NFNS. And I used to love Guy Fieris Guys Big Bite but lately everything he makes is just way too spicy. Freakin peppers in everything! It gets old. And I still love Racheal Ray and Paula Deen... I find their recipes very approachable.

But you go Big Daddy Mac! So far I haven't missed a Sunday at Big Daddy's House. I think FN has another hit with this one.

Confuse... I have been looking for Salmon Croquettes by Big Daddy's House.. can someone help me I see them for other people but not for Big Daddy's House.
