Best non-beef burger in Manhattan

I know this leaves some burger purists cold, but as a non-beef eater for religious reasons, and for the sake of other non-red meat eaters out there, please pass on the word of the best turkey burger or 'other' pattie between a bun, with good fries, in the City.

I don't think I've come across anything worth reporting, hence the need for some advice. I find that at the top beef burger places, the 'other' burgers are usually an after-thought.

Much appreciated, people!

I like the lamb burger at Anthos, fancypants but really good. That is red meat, however. Alaina here at Serious Eats World HQ says the turkey burgers at Westville are pretty good. She says that appreciating turkey burgers is all about managing expectations.

Seconding the turkey burgers at Westville. The Portuguese buns are a very nice touch. A beef eating friend who now lives in London makes a beeline for Westville whenever he gets off the plane at JFK, he misses them so much.

Thanks, sounds Westville is worth a visit (and Anthos - interesting menu).

' .. appreciating turkey burgers is all about managing expectations. ' Interesting thought. Does that not go for beefy patties too?
For the record, I ask for nothing more than the following: A well-seasoned moist chargrilled pattie (1/3lb at most, with some texture, not fine ground), cradled in a lightly toasted non-disintegrating bun (brioche preferably, Portuguese sounds good), with a thoroughly dried (pet peeve) whole lettuce leaf and a juicy 1/4 in slice beef tomato. A slather of French mustard on one side of the bun, with a liberal dollop of ketchup (Heinz please) christening the pattie. To accompany, just-out-of-the-fryer crispy steak fries (soft on the inside) and a side of half-sour pickles. Cheese, fried onions, bacon, be gone!
See, nothing much to ask, right? It's amazing how some places find that hard to execute.
I'm not a burger connoisseur by any stretch of the imagination, just a punter wanting a decent burger, whatever the animal. ;)

the portobello burger at shake shack.

I enjoy the veggie burger at Garden-of-Eat-In on Avenue J (Midwood, Brooklyn). The platter comes with a grilled berger on a toasted bun topped with sauted onions, along with good french fried potatios and the usual garnish of lettuce and tomato. At home, I use Morningstar Farms prime grillers to make cheesburgers that would otherwise be a no-no to a kosher person such as I.

BRGR (7th Ave btwn 26/27th St) has a great veggie burger. My meat-eating husband even gets it once in a while and it satisfies him too.

Thanks, please keep them coming. I've never been a veggie burger fan, but it does lend itself to more creative ingredients, resulting in more varied textures than turkey meat.
I don't think seafood make good burgers. In fact I think it sacrilegious to grind up fresh fish into pulp for fishcakes or even deep fried. Just grill and serve 'em with a slice (lemon). Sorry I digress...

The lamb burger at Belcourt is also great.
