Would you rather give up bacon or french fries?

What...never eating bacon again? French fries taboo? I'll admit, the smell of bacon cooking was one of the reasons I added meat back into my meal plans. But... I'd never give up FF. If it came down to giving up bacon or french fries, which would you choose?

No contest, give up the fries.
One cannot make a fine Alsatian tart with fries nor can one make a lovely spinach salad, clam chowder, German potato salad, BLT...well you get the gist.
Everything in moderation.
Hail to bacon - a little bacon goes a long way in so many different recipes - but then I am not a vegetarian either.

Hmmm...I almost never eat either one, yet both are a tasty treat for every now and then.
If I can call my thick-cut oven potato wedges "roasted potatoes" then fries can go, as bacon does have many recipe uses.

I might change my mind the next time I am confronted with some good fish and chips though......

Now I want both! :p

No question about it......the fries are gone.....gotta have my bacon !!!

Have you ever seen "Sophie's Choice?"

I guess the siren song, er, rather the swine's song of bacon would over power the need for steak frites or moules frites or just frites...I guess...oh, I don't know. I guess, if I can still have other potato dishes like hash browns or chips, I'll be okay.

Goodbye french fries.

Absolutley fries. I never order fries when I go out and if they come automatically with what I do order, I don't eat them. Why does every burger/sandwich in America have to come with fries? BORING.

Clearly I am in the minority here, but I could live without bacon, but don't take away my fries! It's funny, as I eat them very rarely, but they are one of my absolute favorite foods. The thought of never having steak frites again is just sad.

(does turkey bacon count as bacon, or would that be cheating?)

Both?

Most fries I eat out are more plate decoration than food, and I rarely go through the trouble of making them.

Bacon? As much as I love the smell of cooking bacon, and I actually do like it, I only buy it about once a year, usually for a specific recipe, and then I've got leftover bacon languishing until I remember it's there and I throw it out.

I could give up both fairly easily.

Keeping the fries, losing the bacon!

Bye bye fries... (in the deep fried side department, I prefer onion rings anyway).

easy - wiedersehen bacon! i love the stuff, but sometimes i just gotta have fries

Wow -- I'm surprised. Fries are my vice -- can't give 'em up.

ditch the fries. I prefer sweet potatoes anyway. Bacon, thick cut, apple smoked with maple and cayenne glaze? Whatev.

Oh this question is just plain wrong!! I couldn't do it! I choose death!

Frankly, I could probably give up both, but if I'm choosing one, I would keep bacon. I rarely eat chips (several times a year, maybe?), and I never make them at home. So as long as I'm allowed to keep roasted potatoes, latkes, potato kugel, shepherd pie, sweet potato hash and all other wonderful potato dishes, I'll be just fine.

Bacon, on the other hand, is something I do use when I cook (even if it's turkey bacon more often than not), and yes, a little bit of the real thing can go a long way. Plus, my Other Half may never forgive me if I were to give up bacon:-).

Buh Bye fries... hey fries, what part didn't you get, the "buh" or the "bye"... BUH BYE.

I don't like fried foods, but bacon...mmmm bacon.

wait, just french fries right? not potatoes in general?

So long, french fries. Particularly those awful fast food concoctions (they're never as good as they taste) and the tasteless sides that chain restaurants serve.

But bacon? Bacon is sublime. If I could eat it every day without giving myself a heart attack, I would.

fries - o, bacon -

Fries, no doubt, I would give up the fries.

I could never eat fries again and be perfectly happy. Give me a good beer-battered onion ring any day. As for bacon, I don't eat pork or any pork products. But I'd have a tough time giving up my Morningstar breakfast strips!

I guess I'm not really allowed to answer this because I've never eaten bacon, so forgoing bacon for the rest of my life would be easy (although technically I wouldn't be giving it up...).

Although I could very easily live without french fries. Just don't take pretzels away from me or I might have to kill you.

Gotta say, bu'bye fries...

You'll take my bacon over my cold, dead body. A life without BLT's...is not a life!

Oh my gosh, how could you give up bacon, the Cardinal Food of Awesome?

Seriously, you add bacon to ice cream and it still tastes good. That should say something.

I love bacon.

But over the past few years, I've started to feel bad about eating any kind of pork. Many breeds of pigs are just as intelligent (or more) than cats and dogs, and I can't help but think about such things while sitting home with my furry friends.

No, I haven't quit eating pork. No, I don't plan to become a vegetarian. However, it's something I do think about, and cannot ignore.

Therefore, if I had to choose only one thing to keep, I would stick with fries.

No bacon for me.

Well, as a good thread for this-
On the tour rider for the Foo-Fighters, the lead man (Dave Grohl) on food needs for the band and crew, called bacon "god's currency" which is hilarious even for us non-religious folks.

I get a bit sad about pork too....I have stopped eating Beef since the abuse scandal. I am not a veggie either, but keep finding reasons I cannot eat certain meats/seafood. It is mainly the slaughter practices that get me. I think humans are fine to eat meat, but our harvesting practices suck.

Bacon? Fries? My god, that's like asking a mother which of her children she'd give up!!! Heck, I even like bacon and cheddar fries! I'm not giving up either of them, thank you.

No sweat. I'd give up the fries. Bacon in the form of pancetta has a permanent home in my freezer.

Love reading all the great comments...seems like most of us can think of a way to "modify" the question to sneak both into our eating plans--ha!

Home-cooked fries or restaurant prepared? Bacon prepared by you or someone else...does this change your answer?

If I had to choose between fries and bacon, I'd keep the bacon. But if I had to choose between bacon and ice cream, I'd keep ice cream. Oh.
Forsakin' bacon I dream of ice cream. Almost a haiku.

Can't live without bacon so goodbye french fries.

Easy. I don't like salty food and the taste of most pork, so fries. :)

Bye bye french fries!!

Hmm..thought I posted but it may have been my imagination. :P

I love seasoned large wedge potato slices that are baked. Deep-fried skinny fries are good every once in a while with course-ground pepper.

Yep, I'd easily give up bacon. It's too salty and I'm not very fond of the flavor of most pork anyway.

Oh God. It would have to be fries. I rarely eat them anyway, and they don't digest too well when I do eat them, so though I do enjoy their golden crunchy goodness, it would have to be bacon.

Too easy: Both! I have never liked bacon, and I haven't really eaten fried foods of any kind in nearly a decade, including franch fries, chicken and all of that. Strange? Yeah, I know. But I make up for a lack of fried foods by including a healthy dose of salty foods. I am surprised that I animals at the zoo don't mistake me for a salt lick.

bacon. although i don't really ever eat either of them anymore. the older i get, the more things i have to quit eating if i want to avoid waddling into old age.

Hello bacon.

This was an easy one: Be Gone Bacon. There is no way on Earth I could live without Fries. I love them. I crave them. Whether they are regular or sweet potato-they are my friends.

french fries...bacon isn't horrible in moderation, and even turkey bacon is good in my opinion. ALTHOUGH, if they were sweet potato fries, i'd give up the bacon :)

This is a mean question. Really, really mean.

I think I'd give up the bacon, but seriously, would life really be worth living?

I might even be more likely to give up all other foods EXCEPT bacon and french fries.

French Fries..see ya wouldn't want to be ya! I subscribe to my 15 year old son's motto--If it's got bacon on it, it's gotta be good."

I'd put bacon salt on the fries...

I'd rather give up French fries. Bacon is good even when it's not cooked perfectly. I can't say the same for fries.

I used to think bacon would go. Then I started getting real bacon from our CSA. Just made a pot of fresh shelled purple hull peas and smoked hog jowl (face bacon) last night. I am thinking, I would give up the fries. You can use bacon in so many more recipes and so many more ways like Zucchini Bacon Fritters.

I'm with cybercita--although during my zaftig university days, a good meal was some fries (and a nod to Cassaendra, skinny fries from TGIF with pepper were nice on road trips) and a slice of cake today I'm more of a baked potato girl than a fry girl. And I'm veggie, so I haven't had pork products since...since...I can't remember...twelve, maybe? We weren't much of a pork-eating family, growing up, even as a kid I liked Sizzle-lean better than bacon.

My answer is a little bit skewed since I don't really eat bacon...so I gladly give up bacon. I WISH I could give up fries...since I eat them way too much, but they're just too good!

Chew on That

It's like asking me to choose between my children - but harder.

If you have read me before you know I am a meat hater but a bacon lover. How is that possible????? French fries can go in an instant I eat them maybe once a year- I do bake potatoes fairly often but I assume I can keep those.

organicandnaturalmom.blogspot.com

@jasonbrink ~ Classic!

Can I give up an arm and keep both?????

I would have no problem at all saying tah-tah to bacon! But since I don't have to, I won't do it. ;-)

Throwing in my two cents: I love potatoes. My family is from Ireland and the Midwest, for goodness sakes. But while I eat fries WAAAYY more than bacon, I'd have to give up the fries. A really good BLT is something I can't live without.

I don't really eat either that often though, so I honestly think I could give up either, if I really had to.

i already gave up bacon!!

Ooooooo this is a tough question. I love both so much, I would have to go with "see ya" ff. This is a question that Paula Deen needs to have in a interview.

Oh, I would have to fight hard for both...but if I had to give up one I think it would have to be bacon. Hot crispy fries rock the casbah!

Bacon is harder by far to give up. Fries do not tempt me. Now tater tots on the other hand I cannot resist. Rather have a tot than a fry any day.
