What are you enjoying from your garden right now?

Still too early for most veggies here, but I am currently enjoying some green beans (Blue Lake - simply steamed with a little butter), hot peppers (several varieties), and my herbs are going like gangbusters with the heat and rain we've had lately.

Anxiously awaiting my first tomato, but that is several weeks out. Planted my favorites (Caspian Pink and Beefmaster) and, for me, some new varieties (Clint Eastwood Rowdy Red, Amish Paste, Hillbilly). Can't wait for that first 'mato sandwich on really good homemade bread, thick slice of beefsteak tomato, light smear of mayo, the slightest hint of of fresh basil leaf, and sprinkle of salt - oh my!

Tomatoes, herbs, mandarins, artichokes, peppers, and swiss chard (I really expected them to die off in the SoCal heat, but they're tough).

I've gotten a few cherry tomatoes, but I bought the plant with some tomatoes on it, so that's sort of a cheat. Other than that, just herbs. It will be a while before I get any regular tomatoes. Some of the peppers could be picked now, but I'll likely wait a while yet. Again, I bought them rather large, and with flowers or fruit already.

I was giddy with joy that my cukes had flowers, it won't be too long for those.

But the farmer's market ought to be good tomorrow.

herbs--basil and oregano, as well as cilantro

we also have some lettuce, and hopefully the spaghetti squash and tomatoes and peppers will be in soon!

Herbs. Lots of them. I do basil, purple basil, rosemary, parsley and others. I have never tried to plant veggies but if I can get my **** together next year, I'd like to try. I'd probably do a raised bed because the soil in FL is horrible - but I'd like to take advantage of the length of the season and the full sun.

I did plant a fig tree this year!

My cucumbers and watermelons are blooming like gangbusters....and the herbs have gone nutz...

I actually picked our first cucumber here in WNY...I'm also harvesting lettuce & herbs. There is early sweet corn, peas & greens at the farm stands. I did see a couple hot peppers starting on some of my plants....and I'm watching the tomatoes flowering as well...can't wait for those!

Just peppers right now, but my tomatoes are coming along nicely. They are bigger than I expected them to be, but still 100% green. I go outside and whisper encouragement to them every day.

My peppers are coming in great, herbs are nuts, squash, zucchini, and cucumbers are all producing too - but my tomatoes are struggling. Only getting a few of those right now, and I planted in early March. Fennel has been growing great, and is going to seed.

I'm gleaning goodies from the MIL's garden- a variety of lettuces, fabulous cucumbers, zucchini and summer squash are all happening right now. Peppers should be ready soon and I think there are beans out there but not sure about peas. I think there are melons and probably pumpkins, too. The best of all is the FIL's sweet corn. Nothing like a fresh picked ear slathered in butter!

Sadly, I could care less about tomatoes but I know she's planted some and they are probably thriving. I just ignore the poor things and let my son eat my share!

Fresh herbs: rosemary and curry leaves.

Oh, and holy (Thai) basil.

Beets, rainbow chard and lettuces galore are keeping me happy. We finished up with the peas last week and are eagerly awaiting the beans and tomatoes.

So far, just lettuces and basil. There are a few tomatoes and cucumbers beginning to sprout as well ... they should be ready within a week or two, can't wait!

herbs -- recently planted cilantro, thyme, chives, rosemary, and parsley.

so far the basil, cilantro, and parsley are going nuts and thriving and the rest are struggling for survival.

but i digress. to answer the question, i have been enjoying the basil in all my pasta dishes. although the parsley is next -- i'm making herbed potato wedges tomorrow!

lettuce onions radishes

We finished with peas a week or so ago. Tonight we ate our first tomatoes, saving the biggest of them for sandwiches tomorrow. We made a salsa fresca consisting of tomatoes , fresh basil, garlic and olive oil over spaghetti.
Delicious! Carrots are slow, but the squash are coming on. Harvested a ton of onions,.

I wish I could have a garden! But as an apartment-dweller, I do the best I can with window boxes. I have some lovely basil that I've been snipping now that it's big enough to spare a few leaves. I also have a pot of thyme ready for harvest. It's great to have fresh herbs at hand all the time and in smaller quantities. I can't always finish a bundle of herbs from the market before they turn brown and slimy, and I feel bad when I waste them.
