One of my favorite things about Philly is that almost every restaurant serves brunch on the weekend. Unfortunately I don't have any good recommendations for upscale places, they are a little out of my price range, but my favorite brunch place is this small place, Day by Day at 21st and Locust. I've eaten almost everything on the menu, and I would vouch for any of them. They have a version of eggs bennedict with a potato latke instead of an english muffin and smoked salmon instead of canadian bacon, it is to die for.

Le Bec-Fin or Brasserie Perrier. It is not cheap but it is worth it.

Both have great tasting menus. The desserts are heaven.
It is where I took my inlaws for the get aquainted visit.
If you cannot get a reservation, any Stephen Starr establishment will work. The bars are nice, the food is good and the atmosphere is nice.

Sabrina's Cafe has thee best brunch I have had during my 18 month stint in Philly. The original is on 910 Christian St but I always went to the one closer to me at 1802 Callowhill St. My fav is the cream cheese stuff french toast with fresh fruit on top. Advice: call them and put your name down because the wait can be upwards of two hours, especially at the original Sabrina's ((215) 574-1599 for Christina St and (215) 636-9061 for Callowhill St).
Honey's Sit and Eat 800 N 4th St ((215) 925-1150) is another great place to eat. Again, very popular so you will want to call and get your name down but very very good brunch.
A little easier to get into is Continental Midtown at 1801 Chestnut St (215) 567-1800. Great mimosas, decent bloody mary's, and very good veggie burger (I realize veggie burgers are not a big brunch meal but its quite good there).

Hands down, the most phenomenal brunch in Philadelphia is at Lacroix in The Rittenhouse.

I agree with izatryt, head to Lacroix. Especially for a special occasion such as this, it can't be beat.

Third vote for the Continental Midtown. It's a Stephen Starr establishment with a relaxed, casual atmosphere and it won't make anyone queasy about footing the bill. I went twice and both times it was damned good.
I'd like to try Lacroix -- it looks amazing -- but it seems like an upscale "career meal," which my value-conscious parents don't always enjoy. Might not want to go all out on the first parental introduction.
But everybody's different. Take your parents where you think they'd like to eat.

@Susquehanna ~ Not on Sundays. You've got your Sunday best folks, your jeans folks and even more casual folks. the food is amazing and there is so much to talk about with the experience, there definitely won't be any awkward silences! ;-)
