Suggestions for lunch and dinner in San Diego
The family (Ma, Pa, and two grown kids) is headed for a week in San Diego. We are looking for suggestions for lunch and dinner. We're not into fancy pants dining, but would like good food. Suggestions, please.

I'm sad to say I haven't been here in years, but I harbor some seriously good memories of Filippi's Pizza Grotto: There's more than one (and the concensus seems to be the Little Italy one is the best), but the one I personally can vouch for is the Mission Gorge location.
I used to always get the meatball ravioli: Like I said, haven't been there in years, but when they say meatball? They mean meatball. Singular, but as large as my fist, and with some seriously flavorful sauce. Their cheesecake was also very, very tasty. -- My parents tell me they loved Filippi's pizza, but I could never get away from my favorite to try it.
Bring an appetite if you go. There's lots of food.

Where will you be staying? And what kind of food are you looking for?
Filippi's is ok, but not really great if you're looking for something really great in san diego.
I recently tried out Luche Libre taco shop on the corner of india and washington st at the washington exit of the I5 and that was a uniquely san diego experience! Very tasty! Would make a great lunch stop.
I also recommend El Agave for a good dinner, if you're there at 9.50 you'll catch the sea world fireworks if you're on the patio or balcony. I also really love Kous Kous(moroccan), Khyber Pass and the Better Half in Hillcrest, or Rama Thai downtown.

Fillipi's has good pizza, but, if you want an excellent, NY style pizza (yes, it is possible here), go to Luigi's on 25 and B. It's in the Golden Hill area. The go right across the street to Krakatoa for a coffee and a baseball-sized chocolate chunk and pecan cookie.
If you want breakfast, Brian's on 6th is good, open early and late. The chicken and waffles is to kill for. Richard Walker's has the best coffee and bacon pancakes (yes, this is bacon cooked INTO the pancake) and German pancakes for 2.
North Park and Hillcrest have some good places, as well as a Whole Foods with a good hot prepared foods area.
For a nicer meal, Cafe Sevilla has great tapas and a club downstairs.
Convoy Street has some incredible Asian places, and while you're there, go to French Sage Cake next to Nijiya Market. These are some of the best (and underrated) desserts in town.
Other awesome desserts are at Heaven Scent and Extraordinary Desserts.
If the area you're staying is having its farmer's market, go there for a meal. Hillcrest's is Sunday morning, Little Italy's is Saturday morning, Escondido's is Tuesday afternoon from 4-7. There are crepes, Mexican foods, Egyptian and Greek, breads, produce, and just about anything else you can imagine.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tips. We'll be staying right at the Harbor. The timeshare is actually a yacht that doesn't go anywhere. I'm hoping that will be a fun time. We're open to almost anything since there are four adults who can negotiate wants and needs. Burgers are a must. Good Mexican. Asian is also good. Two of us eat sushi. The other two adapt to that. This is certainly a good start.

I really enjoy Georges at the Cove in La Jolla. There are different areas of the restaurant (ie., fine dining, terrace, etc.). I highly recommend getting reservations for the terrace (they didn't use to take reservations but I think they do now). It has a beautiful view of the ocean. Also, you MUST order the George's signature soup. It is my all time favorite!

If you're at the harbor then island prime is ok, the view is great and its close for you, I forgot to mention georges, we always used to take our friends there, you should at least get some drinks at sundown there, its a beautiful view!
You'll be right by liberty station, so there are lots of new restaurants there, wine steals and also a trader joes to stock up on picnic stuff.

Thomas Keller's Burger Lounge in La Jolla is nice. The onion rings are great. It's nice if you want to go to the beach and get a burger afterwards.
