Sharks Fin Soup
Firstly it is not too 'Green' to indulge, but had a group of ethnic pot luck diners over last weekend.
Having some dried Sharks Fin needing still some preparation. Rolled up my sleeve and turned out superb.
I used four chicken carcasses from Chinese supermarket with some slated pork bones to prepare stock with slow rolling simmer.
Crab Meat from Alaska crab claws, home and smoked ham from our local Polish sausage butcher.
A dash of Brandy, Egg white and finely shredded Spring Onions, ready to serve. a successful gourmet meal starter.
btw better than that served by Restaurants.

After reading about/seeing some documentaries on the practices employed in obtaining shark fin, I would venture to say eating it is less than "not green" but rather, completely inhumane.
Sorry, but I have soft spot for what humans have done to ocean life, and catching sharks to cut off their fins live, just to release them again....as good as the soup could taste, I can't imagine enjoying it.

i tend to agree with savecara......i saw a similar video......pulling live sharks onto the boat, slashing off the fins and dropping the sharks back into the water.........

I come from a large family of avid fishermen. They would be mortified. There are "rules" on how ocean life is to be treated. That is an evil catch and release practice.
