EEE! My hometown! Eat at Greenman on Wilmington Ave, it is only one street down from the main street (Rehoboth Ave). It is on the ocean block and has great food and GREAT smoothies. When I worked on the avenue I went there almost daily. It is great for lunch and breakfast. Right next door (going towards the beach) is the Retro Cafe, which has really good breakfasts (especially the pancakes). I like Cafe A Go Go on Rehoboth Avenue, on the second block, for coffee (last time I was there it was cash only). If you have a car, go to Nage on Route 1 (next to the Salvation Army) for food that is a little more upscale. Dolle's Popcorn (Rehoboth Ave and the boardwalk) is an institution there (stay away from Candy Kitchen...they don't make their candy on site, but Dolle's makes the corn and Taffy onsite). I like Claws for crabs and Fins is tasty as well for seafood. Obies (Boardwalk and...Olive? it is about 4 blocks down from Rehoboth Ave) has tasty, basic food in a bar atmosphere. Ummm... I'm sure more will come to me. I miss Greenman the most, however! If you go, say hi to Jeremy and his wife (they own it and are there all the time).

don't miss Dogfish Head Brewery. not only are the handcrafted beers & spirits AMAZING, the food is awesome. as an aside-Matt & Jerry run the really cute Lighthouse Inn B&B on Delaware and it's a fun place to stay.

I can't believe I forgot Dogfish Head. DEFINITELY don't miss it. When my friends find out where I'm from, that brewery is the first thing they talk about.

Nicola's Pizza. Make sure to get a nic-a-boli. You'll likely have wait, but I assure you it's well worth it. Great family history there and the food is amazing.

I recommend:
Dogfish Head Brewery
Summerhouse
Lighthouse
Cultured Pearl (Great Japanese place-yummy sushi)
Grotto's (people love the pizza)
Greenman
Retro Cafe
Big Fish (great Seafood place)
Blue Moon (just delish)
Thrasher's Fries (not a restaurant-it's on the Boardwalk but they have the Best Fries. Ever.)
Mack's Ice Cream (Great Ice Cream)
That should get you thru. There are better Restaurants in Rehoboth but Nightlife is better in Dewey (just be careful of Cops). Also check out Bethany-couple good restaurants.
Have fun!!

@Emmi24g ~ Thanks for bringing back that memory!
@Butrflygirly ~ Thrasher's Fries are to die for. When we stayed down there I could walk to get them. Let me tell you, after a week, I needed to walk everywhere to make up for the indulgence! That was the first place I had malt vinegar on fries. I am hooked!

@iz: Totally!!! I think a person has not experienced fries unless they've had Thrashers. Malt + Salt + those fries = GOODNESS

@love: The sign isn't too crazy. The sign says Dogfish Head and has a picture of a shark (I think that's what it is) on it...Everything is on a wooden oval shaped piece.
@avideater: If you go to Dogfish Head, you don't have to just drink the beer. (I am not really a beer fan.) They make other alcohol. If you say you've never had their rums or beers or vodkas, they will let you try a few. They come in pretty decent sized samplings in bigger than normal shot glasses. I know from personal experience...I tried Beer first and then he let me try a few rums. Of course, I chose a Rum. :)

@ Butrflygirly: It is a shark! And Thrashers are to die for. Be warned, they don't have ketchup and it doesn't matter, b/c vineagar is the way to go! And if you go to Nicolas, get the Nicoboli, not the pizza...soo yummy. I always preferred Louie's on Rehoboth ave near the beach for pizza.
pbisNOTmyname at 4:08PM on 07/25/08
@pbis: No ketchup necessary. Malt and Salt-that's all you need. :) I agree with you about the Candy Kitchen-but did you ever have their Ice Cream? It's been a while for me, but I remember it being good. Yes, I do have a thing for Ice Cream. Greenman is good-I like their Fruit Juices too. Do you like Grotto's Pizza? I don't, but you know how people are around here...It's almost a sin if you don't.

Macks on the highway has the most heavenly milkshakes... I used to live a few streets away and would walk there and eat a burger and shake...so good!
I don't really like Grottos, but after I moved away, every once and a while I really want it... So weird. I have always preferred Louie's as a general rule...and the people there are nicer too! That's what I loved about working in Rehoboth: I got to know the owners of the establishments and that made me love them more and more. I was so sad when Java Beach made way for Claws...so wrong. At least I could still eat their fabulous cream of crab soup at Arenas. I can't bring myself to go into a Candy Kitchen--it stinks of not fresh candy.
The people who work at Dogfish are sooo knowledgable about their beer/spirits/food its ridiculous.
I also miss the donuts at Lingo's Market on Baltimore and first. Yummy!
The pastries/cookies at the Bake Shoppe are yummy...
And the cinnamon rolls at Fuddy Duddys on First between Rehoboth Ave and Wilmington next to the Frog Pond.
...a lot of my things are for breakfast because I would have to go to work on the avenue at 10 and there were so many places to get breakfast beforehand! I don't want to think about how much money I have given Greenman. All deserved of course!

@pbis: Nice to meet ya! It's fun to talk to someone from my state..:)
Butrflygirly at 6:31PM on 07/25/08
So few of us! I'm usually the first person from Delaware my friends meet...and they usually quote Waynes World. =) Didn't know there were any more Delawarians on this site.

Café A Go-Go in Delaware was an experience I never would like to have again. After spending a holiday weekend with friends in Delaware, we decided to drive around to know the city the evening of Nov. 28, 2008. We visited the downtown boardwalk and a few open stores on Rehoboth Ave. Upon noticing Dunkin Donuts was closed, my two high school teacher colleagues, 6-years-old nephew, and I ended at this café.
As we went inside, we heard people talking about the Mexican origin of the owners. After ordering 2 coffees, 1 tamarind frozen, 1 hot chocolate, 1 chocolate chip cookie, and 2 muffins; one of my friends went by the service counter to ask for a cup of water. She had to take her kidney transplant pills. The gentleman preparing coffees (“the owner,” Sr. Ramírez) replied to her: “We do not even have filter water for the coffee, so we cannot give water for people to drink. We have had many problems already for that reason.” We did not like his response, and decided to leave the place immediately. We had not even consumed what we had bought. Since there were no signs instructing were garbage had to be dumped, we left the café leaving everything on the corner counter by the glass window. We had not walked one meter down the sidewalk when Sr Ramirez ran after us and shouted to us in Spanish: “La próxima vez que vengan recojan la basura. Por eso es que no nos quieren en este país porque nosotros los hispanos somos unos puercos.” (“Pick up your garbage next time you come. That is the reason why US people do not want us here because we Hispanics are dirty people.”) He ran back to the store. Not believing what I had just heard and seen, I went back to the store to ask him why he had said those words. I was not able to go inside the store because he had locked the door and had hidden in the back inside, leaving the service area alone. There were only two female customers drinking coffee inside the place at the time.
