Recommendations for Billings and Fargo!

An upcoming cross-country move will involve stays in Billings, Montana, and Fargo, North Dakota. I would love ideas for things to eat and see. Thanks in advance!

If you are on 1-29, there is a great Greek place that is located right by the off ramp and next to a hotel that has Timberlodge Steakhouse in it.

The restuarant is well-priced and really great Greek food, including baklava!

Also, and this is a ND tradition, although the food isn't the haute cuisine that you might be after, try going to the Paradiso, also close to the off-ramp from I-29 I think. The chips and salsa are great, and it really is a unique ND experience.

Finally, and I don't know where in Fargo it is, find Widman's chocolates. Trust, it's worth every extra minute of time that you spend in the area. Don't ask, just go. www.carolwidmanscandyco.com

Enjoy!

Fargo: Check out Monty's for fine dining options - seriously good if a bit expensive. Well, expensive for Fargo. Nine Dragons is good for Cantonese-style Chinese stir fry and really bad for you appetizers. Guadalajara's is far better than Paradiso, IMHO. Less Tex Mexy and super tasty. Nicole's Fine Pastries is great for breakfast. Finally, you should really try Midwest style pizza. Check out Duane's Pizza House for that.

(all of the above are locally owned, too. bonus!)

On Fargo you can both eat and see at the Plains Art Museum

@unarata: I agree, the other place might have better food, but for my family, Paradiso (which we all still call La Campana, from it's old days) is a tradition, and it's famous in Fargo and Grand Forks, which is why I mentioned it. But, then, my family doesn't really like "foreign" food that much (myself excluded), so it suits us to go there. We can get a "Mexican" meal, without feeling to scared about the unknown, if you see what I mean. :) Sad, but true. Even Chinese is out of the question.

On that note, if you are going to make it up to Grand Forks (my home town) and want a little more authentic ND eating (not good or great, just traditional to ND), try the Kegs, the Italian Moon (and bring pepto), Happy Joe's and the Mexican Village. Otherwise, there is also the original location of Widman's Chocolates as well, famous for their chippers. I can't stress that enough. Truly, it's worth it. :)

I actually have a recommendation for Billings... Walkers is a great restaurant, locally owned, good contemporary American food. Not particularly "western" or anything, but good food.

Things to do in Billings:

If you’re a baseball fan we have a Rookie League team, the Billings Mustangs, a Cincinnati Reds farm team.

History buff?
Pompeys Pillar, 30 miles east of town, which is the last remaining physical evidence of the Lewis & Clark expedition outside of museums.
Little Big Horn Battlefield National Monument, the site of “Custer’s Last Stand,” 60 miles south of town.

Museums?
We have the Western Heritage Center, the Yellowstone County Museum (both history museums) and the Yellowstone Art Center.
If you’re interested in Native American culture we are just north of two Indian reservations. You will then be able to see how many of our Indian brothers and sisters live, warts and all.
Depending on when you pass through town there are always different events going on.

As far as food we have nearly any type of ethnic food you care to eat. Tell us what you like to eat and we can narrow it down for you.

Have a fun and safe trip!

Have not lived in Billings for a few years, but for a very nice dinner, I always went to Juliano's. And, agree with the Walkers recommendation posted previously. I think Juliano's is only open on a few nights of the week. And, there is alot to do and see in Montana so knowing your preferences would really assist in making some recommendations for your trip...
