Real Mexican taco shops in Dallas area?
I just moved to Dallas (actually north Dallas, near Plano) and I am looking for a real Mexican (not Tex-Mex) taco shop. I used to live in San Diego and everywhere you went you could find a small mom & pop taco shop that offered a nice big carne asada burrito as well as tacos and definetly homemade salsas and pico de gallo. I am not talking about a sit down restraurant. I am looking for a place that might have tables outside or if they do have indoor dining its not a chain restaurant a la Taco Cabana.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Especially locations that might not be to far from the Plano/North Dallas area. Gas prices would defeat the purpose of an good inexpensive lunch.

Well to get the good stuff you're probably going to have to drive a bit. Oak Cliff is the place to go for good cheap mexican, with taco dives all over Jefferson and Davis and around the Bishop Arts district. Its a drive but if you're planning on being downtown, might as cross the Trinity and check out the 'hood.

Okay, so this place I am suggesting is not so much a taco shop as a taco window, but you will not be dissapointed. You do have to come into Dallas and its right off the freeway. Please try: Fuel City, 801 South Industrial Boulevard, at I-35. The tacos are great and the corn in a cup with everything is excellent. Also, please be aware, there are no tables, so you have to eat in your car.

I too am from San Diego and lived in Dallas for 3 years while I was at SMU. I really really liked Cuquitas. It is a sit down restaurant, but definitely low-budget and nothing high-class. The food is delicious and as far as I know it never closes. Also, I apologize for mentioning a chain, but I must say Taco Diner makes some tasty traditional tacos, and I think there is a location out in Plano.
