popsicles, drumsticks, and ice cream sandwiches... oh my!

There's a big debate in our family. All six of us like something different to eat when we need to cool off. So what would you choose to grab out of the freezer... a popsicle, a drumstick or an ice cream sandwich?

i forgot to answer my own question... i like cocnut or strawberry paletas.

Er...neither?:-) But I'll take a bowl of pistachio or green tea ice-cream any time!

Ice Cream sandwich hands down.

Forget the Oreo debate about dunking/eating/breaking open--the fine art of licking, biting nibbling an ice cream sandwich to get the correct ratios of ice cream, than wafer, than the two together is one of the great unheralded skills of childhood.

I don't really eat novelty treats anymore, but I also have many a fond memory of Chipwiches.

I like Snickers ice cream bars, and I'm also partial to Skinny Cow fudge bars. But nothing beats Talenti Belgian milk chocolate gelato (double dark is not yet available in my area).

I want a Chipwich please.

If those were the choices, I'd go for the ice cream sandwich first, drumstick second. However, since I make my own ice cream, that's the top of my list. Or, there are those margarita popsicles I made. Those are pretty tasty, too.

Oddly enough, a popsicle is probably what I'd be most interested in on a hot afternoon, but the ice cream would be the evening-ish snack of choice.

Funny, it would never occur to me to want any of those things to cool down. The heat always makes me feel very ill, so all I want is a glass of ice water (tap!) and a cold compress.

I second you on the paletas! I miss living near a larger Hispanic community where I could get those more often. Harder to find here.

If I get to pick the freezer-section treat then it is a strawberry shortcake Good Humor bar all the way-YUM!

If I have to pick from the 3 in the question, then the Drumstick for sure!

@db--any tricks to your margarita popsicles or are they just frozen-all-the-way drinks? Loooove me a good 'rita and a popsicle of the same sounds yummy!

@sadie, it was just store-bought margarita mix with some tequila. I added some pomegrante juice to a few of 'em, too. I just eyeballed the tequila, but I guess I got it right because the froze well enough.

@db--Thanks!

To cool down - a popsicle. As a road trip treat the ice cream cones with the chocolate inside and the peanuts on top.

To really spoil myself, a homemade ice cream sandwich with honey-vanilla ice cream between lavendar sugar cookies. I think I may have to break down and buy a 220v ice cream maker...

If I'm really hot - like the heat wave we've been suffering from in the NE, I'd definitely want a popsicle - preferably my own, made with fruit juice.

If I just want a treat or dessert, an ice cream sandwich would be divine!

to cool down a tall glass of white tea with lots and lots of ice! as a treat, before dairy was a nono i would agree with sadiepix, i used to love the strawberry shortcake bars! but a drumstick would be a good option too, the popsicle would have to be homemade though unless it was italian ice!

Snoball! Or maybe a getati from Rita's, but I tend to go for icy when its really hot outside. I am also a big fan of the Drumstick when picking Icecream.

If those were the only things I had to choose from, ice cream sandwich. Hnads down. But, if I had a choice of anything it would be ice cream. Or a Gelati from Rita's.

Well there are so many different kinds of popsicles...but since I know what I'm getting with the drumstick, I'm going to go drumstick! Love those ice cream cones with all that gooey chocolate and nuts. Mmmm.

Chew on That

For all you paleta fans (me too!), a friend of mine just started a fabulous paleta business called Go-Go Pops. She has the most amazing flavors (tamarind! cucumber-lime-chili! cantaloupe-ginger!), and they're made with just a tiny amount of sugar. They are the fruitiest, most refreshing pops ever! If you're in the Hudson Valley area, she's at several of the farmers' markets and music festivals. Not to be missed!

As for me, on a hot day, I'll take any cool sweet treat I can get. My first choice is a Froze Fruit or some other kind of fruit popsicle. Next would be a Skinny Cow ice cream sandwich. But really, if it's cold and sweet, I'm there.

Bluebell has just come out with a chocolate covered cherry ice cream bar which hits all the notes for me.

Of the three choices, probably a popsicle because to me, its more refreshing. Having said that, ever tried frozen lemonade (especially if it's on the tart side)! Speaking of which, I think I'd better go check my supply.

Lemon water ice.
