Need Name for a Soup Company

Thinking of starting a grassroots soup company in Columbus, Ohio and brainstorming names. Some ideas so far:

Super Soups
Soup's On...
The Wooden Spoon
Village Soups (I Live in Victorian Village and there is Italian and German Villages in Columbus)

50 Comments:

What about 'Stir It Up'...not sure how many companies use that trademark.

Too bad "Souper Market" is used...have one near me. Although I don't see anything wrong with using "souper."

Soup Nazi is probably trademarked, and I presume Soup Mussolini would not work well...

Grammy's Kitchen
Empty Bowl
Bread Bowl

Guess there's always something more location specific like:
Arch City Soup
Crossroads

Bottoms Up (hmmm maybe not for soup :P)
Hilltop Souperie

What are your cross streets? Maybe a play on that?

Stock Pot
Please sir, may I have another?
Tin Cup
Lick the Spoon

Finished lunch...my belly is full, so I'm all out of ideas.

Soup, No Nuts
Souper Bowl (nod to Cassaendra)

thanks for your ideas so far!

keep them coming!

@Cassaendra: Tin Cup gave me a good chuckle. Not sure people would go for food out of an athletic supporter... but you never know!

First thing I thought of was the old joke : Hooker to geezer - "You want super sex?". His reply - I'll take the soup.

I LOVE Cary's *nod to Cassaendra* Souper Bowl. Can you use it if nobody trademarked it and it's not already in your city?

Grassroots Soup Company

Bear's Broth

The Soupery?

Haha, I'm not very creative. I like a lot of the above suggestions. And I laughed out loud at dbcurrie's "Grassroots Soup Company"...looks like you came up with it yourself! ;)

@Bangie -- I was just thinking "spoons" when I read your "The Spoon"
something simple but fun sounding is easy to remember!
personally, I just like utensil names in general...

if you did decide to go with a play on "soup," how does "soupernatural" strike you?

hahaha this thread is fun to look through.

Lucky Horseshoe Soups
Buckeye's Best Soup

@Cassaendra: Love it. :) That Seinfeld episode was great! Loved the Soup Nazi!

@Onepercent: I was going to say that too! Great minds think alike.

I thought this was cute:

Slurp

I can't think of anything else I like more than The Wooden Spoon.

A local politician in NJ was asked a question at a public meeting and his reply was, "It's a mixed bag of soup."
HUH?????

Soup de do (get it, like whoop de do?)

Golden Bowl is a common Chinese restaurant name...might want to avoid that.

Otherwise, I like Village Soups...and I'm in Springfield, so let us know when you open and we'll come visit!

Please serve cream of mushroom soup. =)

Keep in mind that if the name is too clever, there will be a certain number of people who won't "get it" and you'll have to explain it. Over and over and over. You'll want to be talking about how good the product is, and they're be talking about the name.

Also, as much as the Soup Nazi on Seinfeld was funny, there are some people who will be immediately offended by the word Nazi, no matter that it's named after something that was on TV. And hard to believe, but there are probably people who didn't watch Seinfeld enough to understand the context.

Is this going to be a restaurant-type place, or packaged goods? If it's packaged, you might want to make it homemade sounding. Grandma's Recipe or something with that feel.

If it's a restaurant, personally I prefer to have a clue what the place is about from the name. Souper Soups would tell me that you probably server a lot of soup. Something more obscure might get attention, but people might not be as willing to just stop in on a whim if they haven't a clue what they're find inside.

Just thought of another: Soup for the Soul

Reaching back to a past life in PR and marketing ... stick with the K.I.S.S. rule, especially for naming a product or company.

I like the ones that are unambiguous and tell it like it is. Soups of Columbus, Columbus Soup Company, Grassroots Soups, etc. Frankly, overly cute or clever names can be trite and incredibly irritating. Personally, I often think twice about trying a place or product if the name is annoying (KD's Kountry Kitchen was a great little cafe near my office that I almost didn't try).

Good luck! Soup is my favorite food, so I'm hoping to try out your company sometime!

For me, the simpler the better. I would take the "s" off and just make it to:

Village Soup

Not too cute, easy to understand, folksy, culinary. This is where everyone in the village goes for soup, even if it happens to be on the shelf of the corner store.

Soup's On! is my personal favorite. It's the first thing that came to my mind when I read the topic.

btw Mac, you seem to be feeling much better. Glad to see that!

@buffy ~ ^ This thread is pretty old.

SLURP

which is an acronym for

Soup
Lovers
Upscale
Righteous
Pot of Soup

Wow, it is old. Wonder why it was on the "recently commented" column?
