Most obese states in the country. CDC report.

linky linky

"Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee lead the nation when it comes to obesity, a new government survey reported Thursday."

"Colorado was the least obese,"
---------------------------------------------

At the bottom of that page, there's a map where you can click on each state and get the statistics.

I'm surprised my own home state, Texas, wasn't the worst.

How fat is your state?

Understand Ct. came in second to Colorado.....GOOOOOOO CT!!!

Colorado here. We usually rate well on these sorts of surveys, as well as the ones that name the best cities to live in. My town was named on that list recently.

Give me a break! ALL the thin people live in Pennsylvania........

Hahaha. I don't know why that's funny. Maybe because I picture you with your hands on your hips, and a mad serious look on your face when you say it.

LOL

@FFC ~ Oh, you know me too well. ;-)

@izatryt??????

Laughing hard here. We live in the state famous for all that PA Dutch cooking and then there's the Philly cheesesteak with cheese from a can. And then, there's our Yuengling. Shall I go on? ;-D

Wir essen gutes!

@Perk ~ And soft pretzels and TastyKake......... Yep. It is definitely a slender state (of mind).

Sad thing is that this talks about the "least obese" state, not the thinnest state. But even Colorado has over 19% -- almost 1 of out 5 people -- who are obese. There are more than 36% more who classify as overweight. Add 'em together and the "least obese" state in the country still has more than 55% of the population that is overweight by some degree. And this result came from a phone survey, where it's easy to save 10 pounds off your weight. The real numbers are probably higher, don't you think?

Sigh. This explains why so many people say I am "thin." Ladies and gentlemen, let me say that I am not by any means thin. I am not underweight or even slightly hungry. I fall into the average category. I am not even on the thin edge of the average category. The fact that anyone in their wildest dreams would call me thin, skinny, or anything similar just means that they are used to seeing overweight people as average and by comparison anyone who is of average weight looks thin by comparison.

Oh yeah, and it seems to me that I got called for this survey, or a similar one. I told the truth.

I was surprised that the news article didn't mention economic issues. I'm betting the actual CDC report did, though. I'll have to check it out.

RE: B..B: "....economic issues:

Just wait for the NYTimes annual coverage of this story.

(hint: it's Bush's fault!)

@srhcb ~ Right! ;-D

Hey folks,
don't get too worked up by this obesity junk....
like global warming it's all about the money,, years ago the CDC dropped the % of fat required for one to be considerd obese and overnight millions more became obese..
Lots and lots of good (researched) info at junkfoodscience.com

Delaware chiming in here...Glad to see we are an Obese State. WORD. I blame it on being soo close to PA. :) HeHe...couldn't resist izatryt/perky.

I don't know what to say...So many things come into play regarding this issue I think it'll be a tough problem to tackle (keeping in mind it isn't just food portions, it's also psychological). I just hope there's always place available for those people who seek help in conquering their weight problems.

I would be interested to see how each state's demographics correspond with its obesity rate.

Are you saying global warming isn't real?

Btw, there's nothing at junkfoodscience.com but a parking page with affiliate links.

All this talk has made me decide to go on a diet........
