I throw a handful of raisins in ____
MMmm...my mouth :) Those giant-sized moist & chewy Dark Chilean raisins are pretty much a staple in my cupboard, I like 'em in all kinds of cold cereal & oatmeal, quick breads & my own blend of trail mix. Dark chocolate covered raisins are the best, tho' Even the salad I ate tonite came topped with some of these guys. What do you sprinkle raisins on? Entree uses? Even if you hate raisins...let's talk about it.

raisins in salad, raisins in couscous, raisins in granola/trail mix
joyyy at 7:50PM on 07/28/08
Oatmeal (not that instant stuff!), and some real butter and dark brown sugar.
LunaPierCook at 7:51PM on 07/28/08
Nothing. Raisins (or any other dried fruit for that matter) are not welcome here. It's a texture thing. Sorry!
brooke29 at 7:55PM on 07/28/08
The "regular" for cereal and golden raisins for salads. Raisins are underrated, but they can really add that small punch of flavor. I also love putting peanut butter and raisins on bananas (I think it's a hold over from preschool for me).
marieinla at 7:55PM on 07/28/08
Three large handfuls of golden raisins or sultanas per recipe (I often double the amount) in my famous sweet and sour meatballs. When I make them in miniature and serve them as appetizers, everyone stands around the bowl with their toothpicks trying to spear what become little raisin-y bits of deliciousness.
Barring that, raisins (any color) go in my rum raisin ice cream after a nice time soaking in a bath of Appleton's 12 year old rum.
Mizbee at 7:57PM on 07/28/08
marieinla...me too...raisins, peanut butter & bananas spread & rolled-up on a flour tortilla...great snack to eat-out-of-hand.

Did I mention bread pudding or baked with winter squash...?

(just kidding; i'm not that evil)

Everything! I love raisins!
So many baked goods and breads, stuffings, bread puddings, cakes, brownies, fruitcakes, cookies........
With chicken in a million recipes, and pork.....
Some good Indian dishes.......
With peanut butter, or cream cheese on a sandwich. Same PB with raisins, carrots and celery........
The list goes on!
YUM.
sadiepix at 8:16PM on 07/28/08
the garbage... raisins have no business on this planet.
Southern_bella at 8:27PM on 07/28/08
The trash. Raisins are one of the two foods that I won't eat. Prunes are fine, dried cherries are fine. Raisins, nope.
dbcurrie at 8:52PM on 07/28/08
Tuna salad! Most of my friends think this is gross though. :(
gnats at 8:55PM on 07/28/08
gnats: hmm, never had it in tuna salad, but your post reminded me that i like raisins in chicken salad. i am one of those people who love fruity chicken salads. :)
marieinla at 9:05PM on 07/28/08
JEP: a peanut butter/banana/raisin tortilla sounds classier than my usual way of eating at the kitchen counter with an open jar of peanut butter!
marieinla at 9:11PM on 07/28/08
noodle kugel!!
sweetpotato at 9:31PM on 07/28/08
My distate of raisings (and most nuts) occurs pretty much only when they are baked into things. I do love dried fruit in pastas, salads, and as snacks though...
lo82070 at 9:53PM on 07/28/08
Most of the above, and in rice pudding. Oatmeal raisin cookies are favs, just under chocolate chip. I also like them in salads, especially carrot salad and broccoli salad (w/bacon) - what's not to like? ;-)
PerkyMac at 10:08PM on 07/28/08
raisins have a huge yuck factor for me, except, for some reason, in raisin bread. otherwise i'd have to agree with the raisin haters here.
cybercita at 10:29PM on 07/28/08
Arroz con leche- the ONLY place they belong.
PumpkinBear at 12:52AM on 07/29/08
I don't like carrots cooked, so to get the sweetness I replace carrots in dishes like beef stew with a handful of raisins.
GregWA at 1:52AM on 07/29/08
Oatmeal, and in my baked goods I use chopped golden raisins because if DH can't see them he'll eat them and I still get my raisiny flavor and moistness :-)
I think he was probably served something with a nice fat fly in it at some point in his childhood, because that's what he says raisins in food remind him of...
cowprintrabbit at 2:55AM on 07/29/08
Raisins, apples & cream cheese is a good bread spread.
Anyone put the dried fruit in "stuffing"?
Brand loyal?
JEP at 7:03AM on 07/29/08
sorry another raisin hater here. I put them in oatmeal cookies for the SO but that means i wont touch them. oh wait i do like rasins in one application, soaked in vodka for my spiced fruit cake, come to think of it, i usually toss the rasins and keep the vodka... hmm is that wrong? ;-)
huneybumper at 7:38AM on 07/29/08
I only like them plain (usually with nuts) - in pretty much any baked good I can't stand their texture. Oatmeal raisin cookies make me sad because I think about how they could be oatmeal chocolate chip or plain oatmeal cookies instead.
producestories at 5:37PM on 07/29/08
My salad! I like the hit of sweet with the acid from the dressing. I also just snack on them. Or pour it in my oatmeal. (I love the golden raisings best.)
lorelei76 at 10:45AM on 07/30/08
...Nothing but trail mix. That is it. Raisins belong in nothing else. UGHH. Adding raisins to a cookie is the best/fastest way to ruin it.
Butrflygirly at 10:49AM on 07/30/08
This comment is probably not welcome here, but I don't really like raisins...eep! If I did though, I'd probably throw them in a bowl of oatmeal, or some bread!

chicken salad, but i prefer dried cranberries by a significantly large margin

Picadillo--according to my boyfriend's family recipe. SO good. Latin comfort food. Here's a link to the recipe...

and these chocolate cookies with gin-soaked raisins will convert even a raisin-detestor..... :)

@JEP ~ I have been fascinated by the "Dark Chilean" raisins since you started this thread. I was talking about them at lunch today and I am officially on a quest to buy them.
izatryt at 7:53PM on 07/30/08
@izatryt...I buy the raiains at my local Fresh Market...they have a huge selection of dried fruits all in their own containers..good luck on your hunt!
JEP at 8:19PM on 07/30/08
There is a Fresh Market about 45 minutes from me. Love Fresh Market. Good reason for a road trip!!! Calling the peeps.
izatryt at 8:27PM on 07/30/08
Chicken Tacos, rice pudding....must have raisins. Everything else, pretty much must NOT. (Those chicken tacos would not be the same) (Obviously)
Cary at 9:36PM on 07/30/08
One of my family's favorite side dishes is sauteed spinach topped with raisins and toasted pine nuts.
KashaKnish at 5:25AM on 07/31/08
I don't eat raisins either. I used to love them as a child but for some reason I don't any longer.
@Butrflygirly I totally agree about the cookies.
bobbob at 10:55AM on 07/31/08
i use them quite frequently actually... savory and sweet dishes alike:
Add them to a fruit salad
Add them in a soy crumble picadillo
together with vanilla maple carrots
into Carrot Cakes
Arroz con Dulce - a puertorican dessert made with rice, evaporated and condensed milks.

I live in wine country and the Farmer's Market sells locally dried - no additives. Big and fat, golden, sweet and "plummy". They are good in many things, but I especially like them in my bran muffins and a bistro-type salad if I don't have fresh grapes.
Before I add them to muffuns, I soak them in a little heated rum or wine.
suegsf at 12:47PM on 08/03/08
Iiiii like them in everything except cinnamon rolls.
