how many aprons

We are apron collectors from europe and we have 120 aprons. How many aprons do you have, and what kind of aprons?

just one plain white bib type

hmm... 4 or 5 I think... my favorite one is red and says "KITCHEN BITCH" on it.

Just one, that my grandmother made for me out of pillow ticking. Sure, I could have more, but why mess with perfection?

I don't have 120, but I have a lot. Some were from grandma and mama, gifts, travel, AND they are missing an apron at almost every restaurant where I worked.

Just one. blue and white stripes with an embroidered lobster.

I don't wear an apron unless I'm entertaining. For everyday fare I have "cooking clothes" that are old and worn through. Not a pretty sight but it works for me and Porgy doesn't seem to mind.

I have a handful of touristy type aprons, mostly given to me as gifts. I like full-on bib aprons when I'm turbo-cooking, as for a large party; or for baking marathons. All other times I usually have a dishcloth threaded through one of my belt loops, mostly as a security blanket.

Mm about 4 or five, and I wear them depending on what mood I'm in/what I'm cooking. For example, the one with the map of Sicily on it is for when I cook Sicilian food, the one with the candy stripes on it is baking, the ruffly one from the fifties is from when I'm feeling particularly domestic or hostessy, etc. etc.

My mother actually collect vintage crocheted aprons (decorative, not functinal), and she has about twenty or so. She wants to preserve them, since it really is a dying art.

I have one, really nice one, from Finland, that I love. However, my mother is a really great seamstress and quilter, so eventually I would like to ask her to make one for me (she just made me a huge quilt, though, so I am not going to push my luck right now), so that I can have that and think of her when I cook.

i have two. one is a souvenir from working at the berkeley bowl, so i hang it up on a hook and gaze at it fondly. the other is a cheapo full length cotton one i got at the chelsea market. no matter how much i wash it, it's always full of flour and grease stains, so i try to remember to take it off before company comes.

None. I generally am able to keep myself clean while cooking or I change out of work clothes before making work if dinner that night is likely to be a little messy.

i have 5 aprons... 2 are from a chef i used to know... 1 was custom made by my kids teacher it's embroidered with evil chef mom on the front. another is also custom made that looks totally retro. i need to wear pearls and vacuum in heels to wear it! the other is just a plain ol' apron!

I have five:
1. A cute pink one with two small white hearts near the top that was on sale at William Sonoma the week after Valentine's Day
2. A bright green number with white pinstripes from Crate and Barrel Outlet
3. A beautiful half-apron (like, a skirt with no back half, basically) from Anthropologie, with birds and butterflies and ruffles and gingham...
4. An apron that I got at a cooking class with Roberto Donna (chef at the now-closed Galileo in DC) that has his name on it
5. A red apron with a crazy looking heart and some random text that I got for donating blood

I don't use it often, but I have a nicely-worn black apron that fits my short stature perfectly. I have trouble finding a bib style apron that fits.

I usually wear "ccoking clothes." I have so many favorite t-shirts that I've wrecked with bleach. Cooking is the perfect time to wear them.

None. I have a cooking shirt!

An apron is on my list of things I want for the kitche, yet do not have. I want to get a really fancy one and cover it in flour but I use it the first time, so it doesn't look new. Maybe a ridiculously expensive Haute Hostess apron. . .

I've been meaning to acquire one of Lisa Garza's designer aprons.

None. I just pull the corners of a kitchen towel through my belt loops

I have 2 or 3. I don't know for sure because I never wear one and they're still in the box from when I moved two years ago. There's one that I've kept for sentimental reasons: it's a white canvasy number with Ziggy on it. It was a high school graduation gift.

I have one my brother gave me from Anthropologie that has lady bugs all over it. It's pretty neat!

I only have a handful, but my favourite is one that my friends had made me for personally with a picture of my face with a cartoon body cooking, and my nickname preceded by "Chef" above the picture. It is one of my all time favourite gifts. I use it almost daily.

I have a chef coat- given to me from some some former collegues at a hotel I worked at. I wasn't a chef- but I spent so much time back in the kitchen asking/learning how to make stuff- they gave me the honorary coat!

About six, though like bessfour I usually only wear them when entertaining or making pizza dough. My favorites are a chic bar apron from Absolut Cut and one that says Cal (blue and gold, of course). I wear the latter in a thinly disguised campaign to steer her toward Cal in a few years. The others are from culinary academies or defunct food dot coms.

I have about 7. Two are ones from the 50/60's that my mom wore. A couple are from the last year as presents. One came from a cooking school event. Maybe the question should be do I ever wear any of them? (Take a look at my laundry to answer that question...food stained clothes!)

4 or 5. i made one, cute, old fashioned style. and some are just plain bib style and one from new orleans has such an offensive saying on it i'm embarrassed to wear it!

I have one that I made....it's reversible and pretty cuuute.

i love my williams sonoma kid-sized appron... it fits just right for petite cooks like me...

I was interested to find the topic of vintage aprons here because I 'm assisting an elderly family member in disposing of, among other things, a lot of about 30 vintage aprons. If any collector is interested, please email me at lmcferrinbates@msn.com

Happy day to all,

I have a drawer full of vintage pretty/sexy aprons that are special to me because they belonged to my mother. She always wore an apron and I have the more contemporary plain bib types that she wore at my house. I rarely even think to put one on. I think I'm a messier eater than cook (big boobs are not always a blessing). ;-D If I recall correctly, back in the 50's she wore one apron to cook and another prettier one to go with her outfit when company came. There are a few holiday specific vintage ones too, but I like the chiffon with ruffles the best. Reminds me of Lucy for some reason. I wear an old tie-dyed long shirt if I'm really worried about ruining my clothes. I also wear it as a night shirt and have worn it over a bathing suit.
