italian - otto, del posto

greek - ethos

happy eating and have fun:)

also, if youre by msg you're close to koreatown. a lot of the restaurants there are 24/7 so if you're out late and need a snack, i suggest you pop into one of the restaurants for some yummy bbq.

Go to menupages.com and pick midtown (or any other neighborhood).
Many reviews there are spot-on and by regular diners, not just magazine food critics. You can also view their menus and plan for your budget.

I know this isn't quite fine dining, but if you're staying near MSG, you must pop in to NY Pizza Suprema for their upside-down slice. Its the bomb-diggs, a one-of a kind slice, alright.

Its caddy corners from the Garden, on 31st and 8th ave.

That's right by my office, so I can attest that it's a tough neighborhood for eating. I second Grimaldi's for pizza! Take the F train from 6th and 34th down to York St. (the first stop in Brooklyn) - and walk around the corner for dessert at Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory- and if it's a nice day/night, have a lovely walk with your ice-cream cone around the relatively quiet and pretty DUMBO neighborhood and waterfront.

Or if you do the Lombardi's thing, be prepared to wait for awhile - and definitely head across the street after dinner for rice pudding at Rice to Riches for dessert.

Otherwise there are good burgers and great sweet potato fries at brgr (26th and 7th)...Cafeteria on 17th and 7th is a fun and hip little spot with good, slightly upscale food, but it can be crowded. Home on 8th (8th Ave between 30th and 31st) is my favorite for lowbrow Chinese food - way above average in terms of quality and taste - and tons of vegetarian options.

what about lucali's in brooklyn for pizza? my favorite pizza place

The MSG area is really not a great area for eating, outside of Koreatown, so I suggest you stray south. 7th, 8th and 9th Avenue have a lot of options starting around 23rd Street. My favorite cafe, La Bergamote, which has quick lunch options and desserts as well, is on 9th Ave between 19th and 20th Street. I also love Billy's Bakery on 9th Ave at 21st for yummy cupcakes to go. I recommend making your way to Chelsea Market, on 9th Ave and 14th Street, which has lots of little shops where you can grab nibbles (definitely try a Fat Witch brownie). For a sit down option, Trestle on Tenth (10th at 24th) is an amazing French/Swiss/New American restaurant. Tia Pol (10th b/w 22nd and 23rd) and Boqueria (19th b/w 5th & 6th) are fun tapas places but are tiny and very popular so I would go at off hours. All the pizza recommendations are spot on but good Greek food is suprisingly hard to come by in the City. Ethos is a good choice but Astoria, Queens, which has a large Greek population, has better Greek food options (a little off the beaten path if you have limited time). If you do go to Ethos, and want a late night slice, I recommend Brick Oven 33 on 3rd and 33rd. I recommend also exploring other portions of the city for food -- West Village, East Village, Soho, Tribeca, etc. and echo Mr. K's recommendation to check out menupages.com. New York Magazine also has an excellent restaurant section with menus. Good luck!

di fara- avenue j, brooklyn- pizza

lil' frankie's- 1st ave between 1st and 2nd st, italian/pizza

tiny's giant sandwich shop- rivington and norfolk

mancora- 1st ave and 6th st., peruvian (great rotisserie
chicken)

indian restaurants on 6th st. between 1st and 2nd aves.

if you're into steak, you can't beat keen's on 36th and 6th.
