Double the meat, double the fun

I'm thowing a little party at my house tomorrow and I bought two huge hunks of marinated steaks. I've had one before and it was delicious, but I had to bake it longer than suggested since my oven's old and cracked out.

Here is my question: Will it be horribly wrong for me to cook both hunks of meat in my oven at the same time? They're supposed to take an hour a piece. Could I just raise the temp and cook for longer than usual? Will it cook at all or will my dinner party be a disaster?

Help!

It should be just fine in the oven together, but for a change why not indirect on your grill outside, assuming you have a charcole grill, even a gas grill with a wood packet should add the slight touch of smoke taste and it won't warm up the house so bad...

You may want to buy an oven thermometer. That way you know how far off your oven is, and how much to adjust.

Thanks Markbb, unfortunately I'm in a small San Francisco apt without access to a grill. Luckily my apt is freezing (especially in chilly SF summers), so heating up the house wouldn't be a bad thing :)

I'd definitely suggest the oven thermometer and perhaps you can calibrate your oven so it works better. And I'm assuming you have a meat thermometer to check the doneness of the steaks.

I'd also say to do as you do in baking and rotate and change the pans halfway through cooking so both steaks are getting an even amount of heat exposure.

To speed up the process you could start by pan searing the steaks on the stove then changing to the oven, but I don't think I'd change the cooking temp. so much so you don't cook the outsides and the insides are raw.

Enjoy your party!
