Dinner Impossible

Did anyone watch the new episode with Michael Symon? It was pretty much what I expected. He wasn't yelling at anyone and he actually giggled a few times.

I've gone from having that channel on nearly all day, to almost never having it on. Barefoot Contessa is into it's 20th round of re-runs. The Essence of Emeril is gone. I occasionally catch Tyler's Ultimate. Trying to remember Anne Burrell on Sunday mornings.

I didn't know Irvine's replacement had started. Are they advertising that? All I've seen are constant commercials for The Neely's road show. "You love them in their own kitchen...." When I hear that I yell, NO I DON'T!

I didn't mind the old Dinner Impossible, if nothing else was on. What do you think of this incarnation? Any chance of actually seeing how a dish is prepared, or is it all drama and chaos?

I've never cared much for Symon, not sure why, he just has always rubbed me the wrong way, but I did watch the new Dinner Impossible with him, it was enjoyable, he was humorous, so I think he might do good as a replacement for Irvine, IMHO.

If I can remember to look for it.

I use to have fn on all the time too, but rarely watch anymore....I'll have to make it a point to catch the new dinner impossible I like chef Symon....I'm thinking that the next time I flip to the fn they might have music videos on??

I actually liked Irvine on Dinner Impossible, so this whole thing is somewhat sad and disappointing.

We enjoyed it very much...liked the "tone" much better and the food seemed a little more adventurous, less obvious and Hotel-catered type solutions. Have always liked Symon, and will enjoy watching more.

i'm another reformed FN watcher, now about the only time i turn it on is for good eats and iron chef, or when Perky reminds us about Anne Burrells show;-) I think FN has a long row to hoe to turn things around. I do like symon so I'll have to try to make a point of looking for the show, of course I liked Irvine too, at least about 4 shows is when he finally calmed down a bit.

As and Ohio person I wish all the best for Michal Symon, with his talent he could live anywhere in the world but he chooses to have his restaurants in Cleveland and I have nothing but respect for that.

I wasn't paying total attention to the whole show, but I liked what I saw. Symon was jovial, and fairly relaxed, and I love his laugh! He also came up with chocolate covered bacon for dessert, so I think I have a crush on him now! :-)

I'll need to check this out somewhere online since I don't have cable. Would love to support Symon since his restaurants have always come through for me when I take family and friends who come to town for a visit. Lolita is 1-1/2 blocks from where I live, and Lola is just a 5 minute drive away.

For a couple months, there was a banner strewn in our neighborhood, across the main thoroughfare near Lolita, congratulating Chef Symon.

Can't wait to check this show out!

I just posted a clip of Michael Symon making chocolate-coverd bacon from a preview episode of Dinner: Impossible. The show looks really good!

I've enjoyed Symon recently on Iron Chef America, but chocolate-covered bacon? Swooooon -- the man has a fan for life!!!

No Fair! I was in my 10th step of my 12 step program to quit FN cold turkey. Now I have to re-program my Tivo.....

It doesn't feel right making disparaging comments about Symon because I genuinely like the guy, but let's be honest, he's a poor replacement for Robert Irvine. Much of the entertainment in the show came from Irvine freaking out, yelling and generally treating people like crap. Is it just me or does that make me sound like a horrible person?

There is but one host of Dinner: Impossible and that is Robert Irvine. The show is now dead to me. He does not seem horrible at all. He demands VERY high quality in the food he's providing.

If you have questions about the whole resume BS-fest (Thanks for being geniuses, Food Network execs!) Check out his blog entry addressing it: http://www.chefrobertirvineblog.com/index.php/2008/07/16/

I love Michael Symon, and I think he is a great replacment for Irvine. He was a pretty good chef, but unlike the previous poster, I didn't like the way he stressed out all the time.... Michael Symon is cool (and funny) under pressure!

All that's coming up in our area (Indy) are still the repeats! What gives! My tivo is not locating any new ones I even did a manual search.

@izatryt--Let's face it, Iz, whenever you break away, they pull you back in.

@all: Symon is a food god, and Dinner: Impossible is now worth watching. Not that I thought Muscly Bob was all bad, but Symon, so far, is just all good.

I dug Michael Symon on the show, although I have to watch it in secret because his giggle drives my partner crazy. A nice change was that it seemed like Symon was having fun, like the whole experience was fun. I never really got that from Irvine's time on the show.

I found myself bored with the Michael Symon episode... He didn't seem to have any passion for doing the task, thus it felt like he was punchin in for a paycheque. Yawn-o-la

@ Pumpkinbear: It's not just you. I found Irvine's histrionics very entertaining. I don't think he treated people like crap, unlike some other reality-show chefs (ahem). Symon seems like a talented chef and a really pleasant guy, and I'd happily eat anything he prepared. Unfortunately, as a television personality, he leaves me cold.

EDIT TO 30 MINUTES, THIS WAS SORT OF A FLUFF PIECE. I AM HOPING THAT THE REGUALR SERIES WILL GO BACK TO AN HOUR FORMAT. HAVING IRVINE'S VOICE IN MY HEAD AND SIMON'S LAUGH MAKE THE NARRATION A LITTLE FREAKY.

Symon didn't cut it for me. Too happy, not enough chaos. I can see Lisa Garza from NFNS as a great Irvine replacement. She's bossy, frenetic and a good cook. Imagine her flying through a tiny, crowded kitchen in her designer clothes, high heels and wearing one of her signature aprons. That's entertainment in and of itself. She'd probably spend a great deal of time dodging flying objects being hurled at her by her sous chefs. Bring Lisa back.

So is Symon still going o be on Iron Chef?
