cooking sites

I usually check out foodnetwork.com for recipes, but I realized I dont really like a lot of stuff on there. Does anyone have a recommendation for internet sites where I can find manageable recipes? Thanks for the help!

I don't know if this will help. They are places where I go to for recipes outside of Googling. :) There are more places, but I don't have the links on this computer.

All Recipes. I like that the site allows you to scale the serving size with recipes that accommodate changes.

Williams Sonoma

Just Bento

By "manageable" recipes, do you mean price of ingredients, ease of creation, time, tips on stuff?

I use Epicurious.com and Food&Wine.com a lot, but also love:

Williams Sonoma

WholeFoods
http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/recipes/index.html

and

MyRecipes.com (recipes from Cooking Light, Sunset, and many more mags available here)
http://www.myrecipes.com/recipes

AllRecipes.com is okay, as is RecipeZaar, but they have recipes that use things like mixes and canned soups and processed cheeses, so I rarely find anything I would make at either site.

great suggestions! i didnt like foodnetwork too much because i find that they like to use a lot of canned stuff also.

Here are a few:

Epicurious.com - recipes from Gourmet and Bon Appetit magazines

myrecipes.com - recipes from Cooking Light, Sunset, Real Simple & other magazines (I've been finding that I really enjoy Cooking Light recipes -- definitely worth checking, since most of the ones I've tried, are easy and flavorful)

You can't go wrong with checking out marthastewart.com -- love or hate her, there are some good recipes there.

As noted, allrecipes.com is a good resource. Similar to this one is recipezaar.com

There are many others, but these are some of my standbys, outside of googling and using my cookbooks at home.

Enjoy!

Food blogs! There are hundreds out there, many of which are fantastic. Some of my favorites are Simply Recipes, Bitchin Camero, Coconut and Lime, and Smitten Kitchen. And that's just to name a few. I have a lot of links on my site that you can check out. My site is Flavor a Deux.

Well, if we're gonna talk blogs (they are different than cooking sites, imo), I often go to

The Wednesday Chef

101 Cookbooks

Gluten-Free Girl

Dorie Greenspan

But, these sites are not just recipes, they are the heart and soul of the lovely cooks who write them, as well. Recently, I logged on to one of my favorite blogs ever -- alpineberry.com -- only to find that the lovely woman who wrote it had decided to end it. I was crushed! I felt I'd lost a dear, ear friend, even though I'd corresponded with her only once. I felt a real sense of loss, which I wouldn't feel if, say, a plain old recipes-only food site I went to decided to close.

P.S. Kelly, I'm going to check out your Flavor a Deux.

A lot of chefs have individual sites with their recipes -- Michael Chiarello (napastyle.com), Nigella Lawson (nigella.com), Jamie Oliver (jamieoliver.com), etc. But I've also gotten some pretty good recipies from foodandwine.com and Epicurious.

PS to Kelly -- Great blog!!

You can search food blogs for recipes by going to

http://foodblogsearch.com/

I find this really convenient, plus food bloggers often provide good commentary on a recipe that you might not get otherwise.

I generally check out Martha Stewart's site because if you can't find something in Living mag, you will probably find it in Everyday Food or from a show featuring a chef who made it.

Epicurious.com is also one of my defaults.

@Kelly Spitzer -- I love your blog! I've bookmarked it, and will go back again.

Can I just say how yummy those lasagna rolls look????

Meant to say - Be very wary of user-contributed recipe websites. (i.e. Allrecipes and Zaar.) Unless otherwise indicated, the recipes are not tested. When you go on a magazine site or Epicurious, the recipes are tested. I've had some disasters with user-contributed sites.

i like a lot...
Martha Stewart - she has been a favorite for ages. recipes are VERY reliable and tasty.
CookingLight.com - i used to subscribe to the magazine

And food blogs - lately I am hooked on:
101 Cookbooks
FP Daily I see interesting dishes there and connect to the blogs afterwards...
and if you're interested in something vegetarian, i will also share mine here...KarmaFreeCooking

www.fineliving.com
www.cuisineathome.com

I second (or third or fourth!) the Cooking Light web site...you can't go wrong with them.

Good advice from therealchiffonade - take it from one who has been "burned" more than once by an awful recipe from those sites. I just avoid them now.

Hey, thanks, Brownie and suthungirl!

Yes, Heidi Swanson's 101 Cookbooks is very good. Healthy food, too!

I didn't know Michael Chiarello had a blog. Woohoo!
