Cheap and tasty in downtown San Diego
Hi there! Tomorrow me and the BF will be departing Boston to go to San Diego for Comic Con. We will be staying about a mile from the convention center and will be on foot for all of our travels. As the schedule of events tends to run from morning until (very often) late in the evening, we're looking for ideas for places to eat that are budget friendly but not far from the center (within a mile or so), so we can get back for panels and whatnot easily. We'd really appreciate any suggestions you all would be willing to provide!

I have goot news and bad news for you. The good first--there is some very good food close to the Convention Center. And now for the bad--the Gaslamp tends to be expensive. Most restuarants will have a menu board posted. The public transit system is pretty decent, especially if you can take the train to where you want to go. Nicky Rotten's is great for burgers. The Cheese Shoppe is an awesome deli. If you get the time, Cafe Sevilla has 1/2 price tapas between 4 and 6. Ciro's has great pizza. If mall food will do, Horton Plaza has a food court (with a few healthy options and about 64 Staubucks). IBrian's on 6th is open really late as well. In the evenings after sessions, try venturing to North Park and Hillcrest for good food. Hope this helps.

While you're in San Diego, you must have some fish tacos. There's a fast food Fresh-Mex chain called Rubio's that has a pretty decent fish taco. If you're looking for something a little more substantial, a lot of the restaurants offer them as well. I've had some great ones made with mahi-mahi at a pub in the Gaslamp - unfortunately I can't remember the name of the place. Have fun though, San Diego is probably my favorite city ever.

I'm from San Diego and am the only person who doesn't really like it, but I must say, the fish tacos at Rubio's are awesome!

Hi all. Thank you again for your suggestions. I wasn't able to find a listing for a Rubio's within walking distance of the convention center, unfortunately. However, I did try fish tacos at Tin Fish (grilled halibut and shrimp) and Taco Express (something fried and white fleshed) and both were quite good.
@Beth- Thank you again for your suggestions. We ate at Nicky Rottens for burgers twice and BF says he is now ruined for all other burgers (which is actually quite a feat!). We also stopped in at Brians for drinks and were very happy with the prices and atmosphere. Thanks!
