Black raspberries- I'm bragging with no shame
My inlaws have several hundred acres of farmland. On said farmland one can find black raspberries. Lots of them. And if one treats one's husband right, said husband will pick said raspberries even though he can't stand them and bring them home for one to fashion into a pie.
OR
I have 4 cups of FREE black raspberries sitting in my fridge. :P They will become pie tonight. Ain't life grand?
Ok, they weren't entirely free since the husband scraped the hell out of his arms getting them for me and I have to make a cobbler as payment. But it sure beats paying $5 for a 1/2 pint at the store.
Anyone else have a fabulous produce windfall this summer?

Oooh..same as you!
My DH and I are renters, and we found out our first week here that we had black raspberries in the backyard! I was so thrilled!
I have had to fight off the vines and such from the wild mess, but I get a few cups worth every year and they are SO good!
We rarely see them in stores here, so it is great to have them. I make a pie if we get enough, we eat them right from the bushes too. Yum.

i just found out yesterday that in my grandma's backyard there are several plantain plants giving out humongous plantains... this at a time when one itty bitty plantain can go for 80cents... so we're HAPPY!!!!
And also, there's a breadfruit tree filled with breadfruits. The amazing thing is the tree belongs to our neighbor, but the fruits are always on our side of the fence. these are awesome boiled and eaten with lots of olive oil or made into tostones...

I found a beautiful patch of wild strawberries in the woods in the Adirondacks over the weekend. TIny little sweet jewels!
Later on, that same day, I noticed that the blueberry bushes by the lake were starting to bear fruit. More tiny little sweet jewels!

I should clarify- I have to make the husband a PEACH cobbler, with peaches also grown on his parents farm. I will not partake. Peach desserts are not my favorite.
Aren't food finds like this just totally awesome? So simple, yet so fabulous because you KNOW it will taste better than what you get at a conventional store. I think I get more giddy over things like this than I do any material goods!
I made the pie last night and will share it with my dad, the intended recipient from the very start, tonight. I might have added too much sugar so we'll see what happens!
@MadelynRodriguez: breadfruits and plaintains!! Where are you and can I come visit? I've never had either fruit and would love to try some straight off the tree. I am intrigued by plantains but haven't had the courage to try them at home. Maybe some day...

@AuntJone - I hear you! My husband drove by a farm in South Jersey yesterday and ended up bringing home a load of the freshest produce (picked yesterday morning) - blueberries, collard greens, red cabbage, leeks, scallions, summer squash... and I don't believe he spent more than $15 on all these treasures! You simply can't compare this to what you get in a supermarket (and I'm not talking about the price). I had to start cooking right away, I was so giddy!
We have a small farmers market in our area, but only once a week (guess where you'll find me every Wednesday at noon?:-) I know, it's probably funny that I get excited like a little girl over fresh produce), and it's somewhat limited, so I was really chuffed!

Just make sure you clean and pick through them really well to get any stray Stink bug or stink bug eggs that may be hidden in them.
That's the one downside to greedily eating them as you pick them in the outdoors.
That's a tough taste to get out of your mouth!
