I really like Amy Ruth's but I think Ed likes Charles' Kitchen/Rack& Soul best.

Note that Jacques-Imo's has closed.

Thanks for the tips! I've had Rack & Soul, so I think Amy Ruth's is up next for me.

Amy Ruth's is good, but I didn't think it was mind blowing. Blue Ribbon's is very good, but expensive. Jacques-Imo's was good, but that place couldn't hold a candle to the original in New Orleans.
All in all, if you take into consideration price, I think Popeye's still may serve the best chicken in New York City. Is that crazy to say? They make damn good fried chicken!

Hmm... I might have to vote for the The Pink Teacup. A West Village gem.

A very hearty Amen, Zach. I freaking love Popeye's spicy fried chicken. If only the quality of the chicken itself was a little better. But it is still one very fine fried chicken. A total guilty pleasure. I wish I could eat it more often.

Get thee to Georgia's BBQ on Orchard Street -- pretty much the best, non-greasy, super crunchy and flavorful fried chicken I've ever had in my life, including what my southern sister-in-law cooks up (please, don't tell her). If you can get over the no bathroom thing, the food there is so delicious and the portions are huge. Also try the cheese grits and whatever vegetable is fresh from the farmers market that day. Mmm.

Damn you midtown lunch Zach being all over these NY food related blogs. Charles' Chicken I say! I do agree with you though about Popeyes.

How 'bout Birdies in the east village? It's on first ave between 9th and 10th. Not only is the chicken great, but the sides and desserts are amazing. Gotta try the peach cobbler if you go.

I'm a good southern girl and I really love Dirty Bird's on W. 14th. The chicken is good and the sides are super swell...It's to-go, though.

Rack & Soul was excellent. However, as part of my due diligence I plan on trying many more offerings from around the city. Georgia's here I come.

The best is at a new place that's not on your radar yet but should be: the redhead at 349 E. 13th Street (just west of 1st Ave.) Meg's fried chicken is amazing - crisp, greaseless, delicious.
[disclosure: I get extra pickled onions in my Gibson here]
