Anyone else peek at the spoilers for TNFNS?
Here's info on the supposed winner, which the network appears to have leaked. You can find the winner's show title on the foodnetwork website if you viewed a cached page.

I know it could be a ruse, but the winner is not at all surprising.

I totally peeked. But I'm not telling.

Ahhhh, interesting...

Someone left the spoiler in the comments on my blog. After some deliberation, I decided to leave it as it was, because it COULD be a ruse, and also because, if it isn't, it's so totally characteristic of the worst of the Food Network and of TNFNS in particular.
I don't mean the person who won is an example of the worst of FN--if indeed this is who won, it makes sense to me.
I mean the way this was all handled; the untimely info on the website and all.
I had a lot of experience selling advertisers on the concept of a website when the internet was still "alternative media" and no one got it, and the one thing I told them over and over was, "You have to put a responsible, knowledgeable person in charge of updates and refreshes. Just setting an unpaid intern or the janitor's nephew by a keyboard isn't enough. You need someone who understands the technology and what the web site is supposed to be doing."
Guess the janitor's nephew struck again.

Travel Channel's food shows are still miles better... the only people worth a darn on Food TV are Guy Fieri and lucious Nigella Lawson.
cambriana at 7:04PM on 07/25/08
Honestly, I don't see any of the finalists making it far...not many before now have (in my opinion, even Guy isn't that great.) But I'm curious enough to peek just to know!
luswim06 at 7:14PM on 07/25/08
They are so inept, it's ridiculous. I was going to watch Mad Men anyway, and check the results after the fact. I did peek and I'm shocked at the network and at the results. They should be renamed the Fiasco Network.
PerkyMac at 7:52PM on 07/25/08
@Perk ~ I went and downloaded season 1 of Mad Men from Itunes (19.99) I know I am crazy! I am going to Tivo season 2, but not watch it until I watch season 1. Which will be easy since I will be spending mega time traveling in August! Ha Ha Fiasco Network!!!!!!
@All ~ looked at the spoiler and have not watched the program for the past few weeks. I have already forgotten what program is coming on FN that could have made me drop out of my 12 step program for quitting FN cold turkey! I am so done with FN.
izatryt at 10:47PM on 07/25/08
... what's a Food Network??? ;-)
LunaPierCook at 8:41AM on 07/26/08
@LPC ~ Right on!

I looked, but i'm not disappointed. I wanted the one rumored to win. But, hey, why get all up in arms over it? FN will use them for ratings for this show, then stick them in a wretched time slot, let them flounder, and dismiss them.
beth1 at 12:28PM on 07/26/08
I looked but i cannot watch any of them anyway. I guess when you watch Bourdain you really do not want to watch anyone else, for me at least. With the exception of Top Chef.
JacquelineS at 5:38PM on 07/26/08
I HOPE THE EDITORS AT THE FN ARE READY TO START EDITING ALOT OF "FILM". HE WILL BE UNWATCHABLE. BUT TRHEN AGAIN, WHO IS WATCHABLE THESE DAYS OTHER THAN ALTON AND IRON CHEF....
pksmash at 9:20PM on 07/26/08
Aaron is the winner - my Tivo said so. Good for him, he should ride that horse for all it's worth. He is going to make some money, and will, in some ways, be the fulfillment of the American Dream. Stop hatin', y'all! Go man, go!
erinlovestoeat at 1:00AM on 07/27/08
I haven't watched for two weeks and don't intend to watch tonight, it's horrid.
stephie at 6:37PM on 07/27/08
Ridiculous....I can't believe that Adam didn't win....I won't be going near the Food Network. It just goes to show that the FN staff can't pick someone that the people want to see. They should really open it up to voting if they want to keep sinking money into losing shows. They're already batting at 1 in 3...Sad...
jcrisco at 11:08PM on 07/27/08
FN is just dumbing themselves down to get more ratings.
I would rather have four-five or more seasons of a TV show with a knowledgeable chef with an interesting approach (Alton Brown), rather than a season of a mediocre Top Chef wannabe with episodes of completely unnecessary drama, resulting in an inadequate winner who gets relegated to a measly early morning time slot.
browntown at 11:47PM on 07/27/08
@stephie, I should have listened to you, I watched and it was horrid.
Rhiannon at 9:14AM on 07/28/08
During the finale, at two different times, I realized that 1) Adam wasn't going to win, even though it was looking like he might and 2) that Aaron was going to win... the first being the commercial for that new show with that Aida chick, who's interactive (strike 1 for Adam's interactive show being picked up) and the second was when it appeared that Gordon pulled the name of Aaron's show out of his ass like he'd had the best idea ever. That part was so obvious to me, that at that point it was no longer suspenseful, it was... oh, Aaron won...yay (dryly).
I'd resisted clicking on/reading this spoiler thread up to that point, and wasn't surprised when I clicked, after my lightbulb went off, and saw that indeed, my deductions were correct.
Southern_bella at 9:58AM on 07/28/08
I watched the Wizard of Oz last night. Still a classic after all these years. Oh! Sorry. This is a FN thread. I shall move along then........
izatryt at 11:06AM on 07/28/08
I didn't watch it, but just found this tidbit and was a little surprised. It's from
http://sidedish.dmagazine.com/
"I feel sorry for the final three-I think the Food Network owes them an apology for spilling the favas before the ending. As I said the other day, all of the contestants sold their souls to the Foodie Devil when they signed the dotted line to participate. Even though they didn’t win, they are all still under contract and have to remit part of their earnings for the next two years to the Food Network. (Think American Idol.) Yes, I know it makes sense-they got an immense, to say the least, amount of promotion from the FN, and I’m sure Lisa’s catering line is ringing off the hook, but it still feels icky to me."
So, if you already had a business, you have to fork over some of those profits to FN, because presumably, your business would prosper? I need to see what Nipa was up to prior to being a contestant. I wonder if they'd owe the contestants money if the public despised them and their business went under?
PerkyMac at 11:36AM on 07/28/08
I did, because I didn't care enough about who was going to win to actually watch the finale. Last week's ridiculous 'twist' of allowing all three of them to advance makes a lot more sense now, it seemed obvious that Aaron should have been kicked off last week for bombing his presentation and serving 3 dishes of store-bought pasta, but they needed to make an excuse to get him to the finale.
Buckethead at 12:06PM on 07/28/08
it was pretty obvious they wanted Aaron - look at all the new programing, they are going after a new market with the Neelys, Sunny Anderson, Aaron. they really wanted to keep Neepa (sp?) around, too even though she was horrible - done right, it could be a really good show. they should look for a chef though, not a wanna be tv star for that kind of cooking.
Adam was fun but his food chops were not strong enough. and Lisa got to the final 3 based on her cooking but she's too nervous on camera and (sorry Lisa), just too weirdly orange. he was the obvious choice half-way through.
i should start putting $$ on this shit
feeedme at 5:12PM on 07/28/08
But wouldn't it have been an interesting marketing strategy to "leak" it? Or at least to have spun the flub into a way to keep Lisa (which seemed to be Bobby's preference), and maybe Adam as the comedic gaffer/guy inder the stairs on all the shows?...
If they had kept the viewer-voting in, after the leak there would no doubt be a surge of people claiming the other two were robbed. Everyone would have voted for Adam and Lisa as a reaction, and then "public opinion"/outcry might make it possible for FN to keep all three, in some capacity ("Now here's something that's NEVER happened in the history of TNFNS!!! We are calling a FNS Turducken!!!").
I am way too enmeshed in these people's psyches, and just want to believe people are both intentional and smart...
HappyHoarfrost at 7:12PM on 07/28/08
Only program worth watching? Good Eats with Alton Brown, you can actually learn something.
