Any recommendations for Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia?
I'm leaving in a week for a 6 week trip around SE Asia. We'll be mainly in the bigger cities. Has anyone been recently with some recommendations anything tasty? I'm looking for restaurant names, specific foods or any other info you have?

We just got back from a month in Vietnam. In Hanoi, amazing bun cha at a place called Bun Cha Dac Kim at # 1 Hang Manh. Delicious beef pho (lines out the door!) at Pho Gia Truyen at 49 Bat Dan. We also had some locals take us to eat grilled chicken feet and thighs - ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Do not miss out on Vietnamese grilled chicken!! Ask your hotel for recommendations.
In Hoi An, you have to go to Mango Leaves. It's not super authentic Vietnamese food but what a fun place and the food is done very well. Can't remember any specific places in Nha Trang, Hue, Mui Ne, or Mekong Delta but we ate very well everywhere except Mui Ne.
In HCMC, too many good places to list all of them! Cha Ca Long Vong for fried turmeric fish is one. Check out Noodlepie for a great explanation of different VN foods and street vendors. Unfortunately the restaurant/vendor info is out of date, but the website is still helpful. Quan An Ngon is a good introduction to street food in a beautiful villa setting... it wasn't the best Vietnamese food of our trip, but it was an enjoyable place to spend the evening. Their che (fruit soup, kind of) was delicious.
Eat the street food! We washed everything down with beer and did not get sick the entire month. We ate everything and drank everything - often with ice, since it was so hot. Basically we looked for busy places, hoping not to go wrong if there is a line out the door. Have a great trip!!! We loved it.

The best food I've eaten in Thailand and Cambodia came from street venders. I can't give you specific restaurant names because I travel by landmarks rather than place names. In Bankok, drink the iced teas and coffee as often as you can. Noodle soups from sidewalk vendors are to die for and the more crowded places in the Chinese Market are all good places to eat. Hard boiled quail eggs on a stick w/sweet-chili sauce are an awe inspiring experience.
In Cambodia's capital, we ate regularly at a partially open-air restaurant on the corner between the main market and the Inter-city bus terminal. Anything on the menu is well worth trying. The staff is particularly pleasant. On an inter-city bus trip out of the capital, the bus stopped for a half-hour refreshment stop and there I encountered crowds of people offering all kinds of exotic fresh fruits, boiled eggs, and fried tarantulas. Didn't try one but, on reflection. I will forever wonder what I missed ;~(

Excellent suggestions! Thank you. I'm going to write down the names and ideas in my travel book so I'll be prepared!

Will you be in Bangkok at all? If so, when? We might run into each other!

We get to Bangkok on the 14th. We'll be there until we get our Vietnamese visas (probably 4-5 days). And then back to Bangkok around August 20th until we fly out on the 24th.

Oh! I'm tentatively scheduled to be in BKK throughout August. I'll have to watch for bears! (heh, heh)
Your trip sounds wonderful... enjoy yourself!

Try Baan Khanitha, near Asoke station. It is reasonably priced and delicious, and has excellent service. The best part is the little appetizer they give you, which is a dried shrimp, a cilantro leaf, a slice of chili, a peanut and toasted coconut wrapped in little flavorful leaves. Delicious!
