Smell-O-Vision: what movie would you choose?

My friend and I were discussing that if movie theaters ever started including scents to match a film, what would be the ultimate food-related film to see/smell? (Personally, I think about this whenever I watch "Chocolat".)

If you could pick one food-related film (or film scene), what would it be?

38 Comments:

Either Chocolat or Big Night, depending on my mood.

Pizza Wars: The Movie ;-D

Only one? Babette's Feast.

Chocolat was my first thought, too.

Eat Drink Man Woman, all the food looks so wonderful and so cared for.

Pink Flamingos again LOL

Eat Drink Man Woman sprang to mind immediately, so I have to agree with malenky.

Eat Drink Man Woman, or possibly Tortilla Soup (it's the same film, but done from different perspectives, does that count as one film, then?) :)

You're right, why am I limiting this to just one film? Feel free to binge on a top 10 list..

Tampopo
Udon

Ramen, pho, and udon are my favorite dishes, so I naturally would love Tampopo and Udon. I'd be all about watching Pho, if it existed. =)

We need Taste-o-Vision next!

@Traveller, I forgot about the Tortilla Soup version of Eat Drink Man Woman. I saw that one, too. Good call.

Only one for me too-Willy Wonka. Can't pass up the chocolate river!

Dudes! Don't forget Goodfellas -- all of those sausages and peppers, and Sunday gravy, and garlic sliced with a razor blade into the oil. And the meatballs! The meatballs ...

There have been scenes from non-food movies where I really want to eat the food they have-- like the microwaved eggplant parm covered in extra cheese looks strangely delicious. The food from any Korean drama looks great too because they ACTUALLY EAT IT-- ever notice that? Oh yeah and the pizza scene in Selena always makes me want to eat pizza. Can't forget Adam Sandler's amazing egg sandwich in Spanglish!

No doubt there are many, but the first two that come to mind are Big Night, and Ratatouille.

Marty (1955). Ernest Borgnine as the neighborhood butcher. Tom Jones (1963), the "love" scene. Alice's Restaurant (1969), the meal; not the dump... Bagdad Cafe (1987). Mystic Pizza (1988).

Moonstruck. Italian bakery, home-cooking, Brooklyn. Right up my alley.

I Love You To Death.

mmmmmmm spaghetti and meatballs fortified with sleeping pills. a home remedy for shots to the head.

@smile, I totally agree re: Korean films - definitely no spit cups on those movie sets! Nice call on the Spanglish sandwich : )

I'd like smell-o-vision for the "The Peach Orchard" scene from Akira Kurosawa's Dreams. A peach orchard in full bloom would smell and look lovely.

And Martin Scorsese plays Van Gogh in the "Haystacks in Provence" scene, which also would smell pretty nice, with the hay smelling musty-sweet and the wind in Provence blowing a lavender-scent around.

I don't watch a lot of movies so I can't add one that I would want smell-o-vision enabled, but I can think of one that I WOULDN'T want to smell:

Stand By Me: total barf-o-rama scene. *shudder*

Willy Wonka, Chocolat, and nearly every movie with a Thanksgiving scene :)

Actually I saw "Garlic is as Good as Ten Mothers" in Smellovision back in the 80's. I craved garlic for months (I smelled like garlic for months too!)

like the microwaved eggplant parm covered in extra cheese looks strangely delicious. -- The movie title I forget to mention was "Twins" ooops.

Anything but Porn..... ewww....

@FastFoodCritic - EEEEEWWWWWWW!!!!!!!

Harry Potter where the magical feast appears or Peter Pan for the same reason.

I won't mention names and violate our sacred trust but someone
(not LastGoodCricket) it on the verge of twisted ;~)

best smellovision movie, big night.

worst... trainspotting.
