DH's office is having a potluck the day before the holiday, and he is all giddy about showing off my cooking skills. I already send baked goods there on a regular basis, but the potluck offers more opportunities
He asked me if I'd make tamales. Well, sure, I'm crazy. Then he asks if I can make ice cream, too. And then it sounds like a good idea to have little disposable serving cups instead of bringing a big container and a scoop.
The ice cream isn't a problem, but containers? I wanted to find something that was cheap. I was considering plastic glasses as a last resort, but I was hoping for something with a cover. No luck. Then I'm in line in the 15-item-or-less line and the woman behind me puts down her purchases, and she's got these containers, and I squeal "that's what I've been looking for!" and she kindly points me toward the BABY AISLE and I get out of line to grab these containers.
Cheap, disposable, with covers. PERFECT. I would have never thought of going down that aisle, but in hindsight it makes sense. Besides the "Take and toss" containers for ice cream, I picked up a 4-pack of little bowls with covers that will be perfect for mise en place or for garnishes or other small stuff that I can prepare ahead of time and just snap the lids on.
And did I say cheap? It was a good shopping day. I'll have to browse the baby aisle more often.
