I heart mustard..do you?

I was looking in our fridge and noticed that we had an unholy amount of condiments...the majority being mustard. We have seven- types currently- which in this eater-crowd might not seem to be much, but I've got a tiny fridge! I'm not sure if I'm looking for other mustards geeks here or if I'm looking for an intervention. Currently, I'm a sucker for the Pepperidge Farms sweet hot, and I'm thinking about getting some Bojetes stone ground to add to my collection. Do have any that you really must have around? I'm all ears for your current favorites & recommendations!

My favorite is the Boar's Head deli mustard with horseradish and white wine. Inglehoffer coarse-ground is a close second. But for corndogs and hotdogs, only the French's yellow stuff will do.

Absolutely! Life would be so sad without mustard. I don't think I ever have fewer than 6-7 kinds of mustard at any given moment. As far as I'm concerned, the sun will not rise if I am out of Coleman's (but fear not, I'm never out of Coleman's). I always have Dijon (usually, more than one kind), 2-3 varieties of wholegrain mustard (must have: w/g with Irish Whiskey and w/g with Beer & Black peppercorn), raspberry wasabi mustard, sweet Kuhne German mustard... My name is Brooke, and I'm a mustardholic!

Mmmm..mustard! I use that like other people use ketchup or hot sauce!

I keep yellow (French's) and spicy brown (usually Gulden's) on hand all the time. I like a good strong stone ground and most any kind with horseradish or whiskey.
I like a good dijon now and again too.
I don't prefer the sweet mustards except a good honey mustard once in a while.
The spicier the better!

I love mustard of all kinds. I love Hot Mustard Sauce from McDonalds!

I heart mustard too! I used to hate it as a kid but one of my roommates reintroduced it to me in college (he liked to put grainy mustard on a cheddar cheese sandwich). My best friend bought two kinds of mustard for me for Christmas, a blue cheese mustard which is awesome on turkey sandwiches and a balsamic mustard that is so delicious sometimes I just eat it with a small spoon straight out of the jar.

My lord you can see in your frig. I have at least 4 or 5 differant types, problem is finding them.....I luv a well stocked frig. I like a yellow mustard on my burgers with coleslaw, I blame that on Grandma...

i love mustard, and it has been an acquired taste. My taste has evolved and now I love the dijon and the coarse-ground spicy kind... I love the coarse spicy kind in a hummus sandwich... I know it sounds weird, but the taste combo is amazing!!! Trust me...

Here in Texas, I grew up eating Hamburgers with only Mustard and black pepper as seasoning. Along with fresh lettuce and pickles, this creates a Tang that makes my heart and taste buds spring to life. No ketchup needed. NOTHING else needed.

Today, I eat ketchup on most burgers, except Whataburger and Sonic, where it's good old Mustard. Both of those chains have achieved the balance, the tang I know and love.

God Bless Hamburgers with Mustard. May ketchup and other sauces never replace them, or erase them, from our minds or our stomachs.

I've been drinking. :)

Mustard is my favorite of all of the condiments. I have to rotate through different types. Usually, I have three-five in the fridge. That way I go through them more quickly and can get new ones. I always like Honeycup mustard. I like to have a grainy one on hand (think right now it's Boar's Head, but not sure). Like to have a dijon or something else too. Right now I have dijon and Sandwich Pal Sweet and Spicy (it's so cheap and I really like it, but it's not actually hot). Recently had a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale mustard, but it was just a decent plain mustard. I wanted it to be more.

@smile, I was waxing poetic on McDonald's Hot Mustard Sauce just this weekend. Mmmm.

So, have you been to the Mustard Museum yet? Oh, yes there is! It's in Mount Horeb, Wisconsin. My boyfriend insisted on going there last weekend when we were camping in the area. It's more of a mustard store than a museum, really, but they have quite the collection of mustard jars. And yes, they have a catalog of mustard...The best items they sell, however, are the "Poupon U" T-shirts, hats, stickers, etc. I almost got a sticker for my car. The website is www.mustardmuseum.com. Oh, and they celebrate mustard day in Mount Horeb on August 2 with a street party. Just in case you're really nuts about the stuff.

I have to ban my fiance from buying mustard. If I didn't, every time we came home from the store, we'd have a new jar. Me, eh, not so much. But it makes him happy, so he gets it if he really needs it...

I DO adore Chinese hot spicy mustard. Rowr.

Lo82070 I'm with you! I can eat chinese hot mustard with crackers the way most people eat chips and dip! I just did a condiment count, I have 8 types of mustard, three kinds of mayo (2 homemade 1 store bought) 2 foil resteraunt pkgs of ketchup, one bottle of prepared horseradish sauce, 1 bottle of chipolte "plate sauce" and 2 bottles of wasabi sauce as well as 1/2 a bottle of hoisin sauce. guess its time to clean out the fridge I just found a lime that I think was a head of lettuce in a previous life also something growled at me:(

I don't care for mustard. I hate horseradish of all kinds so the wasabi and the mustard and mayo with horseradish is my husband's. The only mustard I'll use is yellow mustard and in very, very, very skant amounts in my roast beef sandwiches. By skant, I mean each slice of bread will have one dot of mustard. It's enough for me to taste (easily) and enhance, but not enough to kill the flavors.

I've got dijon, stone ground, Irish stout, barbeque, hot, and horseradish varieties on hand in my fridge at this time! Yay, mustard!

I'm a mustard fan, too! I currently have just yellow mustard in the fridge, but I'm a big fan of whole grain mustard with whiskey. It adds an extra boozy bite that makes mustard that much more badass!

For salad dressing, I love Ken's Honey Mustard - a great sweet and spicy mix, perfect for salads and marinades.

I prefer spicy brown or grainy. Love horseradish with anything. Dijon is good. NOT a fan of yellow mustard (makes my tongue hurt thinking about that vinegar overload) and don't care for mustard in salad dressing except for potato salad.

I eat it on everything. EVERYTHING. Including rice and peas (REALLY tasty.) It's kind of a problem. Currently I have yellow, dijon and spicy brown, but I did have an Easter flip-out at my mother's house (last minute surgery=me cooking for 14 people) and bought seven kinds for the ham. When my mom saw the jars she almost staged an intervention. I should go back to her house and pick those up...

I heart mustard big time! I am a little fussy about my mustard brands though. Must have French's yellow, Grey Poupon dijon, Cherchie's champagne, Maille whole grain dijon, Gulden's spicy brown, Beaver sweet hot. My favorite dressing is Cindy's Kitchen honey mustard. With that said, I will try other mustards with hearty recs from the great SE posters, but I will NOT use any other yellow!

Oh one more thing Mustard and French fries.......

@Markbb - YES! I loathe ketchup.

I eat dijon straight off of a spoon. mmmm...

I used to be a hater but don't worry, I've come around. I now like mustard on my hot dogs and especially on my corned beef sandwiches. But, I like the simply yellow (French's) kind so I'm no guru like yourself.

Yay mustard!

Chew on That

I love mustard! And wasabi and horseradish. The only thing I don't like is when people put a ton of Dijon in deviled eggs, and then all you can taste is the mustard. But other than that, I love it. Love mustard on pretzels, yum!

Yes. All kinds, too. I find they each have a "personality" of their own, and pair well with different foods.

I love mustard!

I HEART MUSTARD TOO!
(No Catsup for me, thanks.)

I like a Deutches Zenf the best, but I also love chinese hot mustard.
Try mixing some horseradish, capers, or citrus to you mustard to match-it-up with the main dish!

MMmmmustard!

We have yellow, djonn, stone ground, and garlic wine.

The latter, garlic wine is a mustard you MUST try if you are a mustard lover. It's made by Singing Pig Food Company and is insane. Everyone I buy it for is immediately hooked!

I just bought two kinds of mustard today yellow an grainy mustard I like mustard on my hamburgers....

Oh my gosh! I can't believe there are so many other mustard enthusiasts. I've got at least four or five in my fridge at all times. We were just on vacation in Maine and bought at least three kinds: Raye's Stone Ground Old Fashioned Gourmet Mustard (they say they're the only traditional stoneground mustard mill left in the U.S.), and two by Stonewall Kitchen: one with Blue Cheese (my husband's pick) and the other is called Maine Maple Champagne mustard. We always have a dijon in the fridge as well. In any case, Raye's makes several really good mustards including a brown sugar-ginger one that's great for marinading.

Mustard on french fries: Agreed, a must.

As for French's: it's mass-produced fake yellow stuff; I'd never touch it unless there were no other options.

Judging from the number of comments you are not alone in mustard-love.
Add my husband and myself to the list. We always have on hand some dijon mustard, regular yellow mustard, Coleman's dry mustard (mix with cider vinegar and you have the most pungent mustard ever--we love it), and my husband's favorite is Mister Mustard. It has a KICK! addictive.

Also we once ate a place called the Daily Grill in Washington DC that served a side of housemade mustard with their French Dip Au Jus--truly made that sandwich memorable--we still talk about it and it was 5 or 6 years ago.

thanks everybody for your awesome suggestions! Glad to know I'm not alone!
