I'd definitely say the redundantly named "Hell's Kitchen" on 9th Ave bet. 46th & 47th. They serve really good Modern Mexican food. Go for the Tiger Shrimp and the chocolate cake for dessert!

I'm not one for neighborhood boundaries, so I don't know if this qualifies as "Hell's Kitchen" or if it's straight up Times Square...but Kodama Sushi on 45th between 8th and 9th is one of my favorite sushi places in the city. Prices are great, food is always, always fresh, service is pretty decent. The place is a hole-in-the-wall, but if you're not put-off by that kind of stuff, definitely stop in.

Rudy's Bar and Grill on 44th and 9th. Best dive bar in the whole city. All they serve is hot dogs but they're free!

I second Hell's Kitchen (the restaurant). Sooo good, although it is kind of pricey. For Italian, there's Nizza (9th Ave. btw. 44+45th) which I think has a Serious Eaters kind of menu, without being expensive (or boring, which I feel is the failing of most Italian restaurants). But my favorite is probably Caselulla, which Ed reviewed recently:

Being a Hell's Kitchen native. Uncle Nick's Greek restaurant. Very well priced, good for groups, Recommendations are the Swordfish Kebob, Saganaki.
