Good Eats in San Antonio?
I'm going to be in San Antonio next week for the better part of a week for a conference. Where are the can't-miss places?? I'm really looking forward to some Mexican food!

Boudro's Texas Bistro on the Riverwalk is a not to be missed food experience. You can go to their website and read the menu. You do need reservations at night and the wait during the day can be daunting, but do not waver! Less upscale but oh my goodness sooooo wonderful is Rosario's Cafe Y Cantina. The food is wonderful and the salsa is the best we have ever had anywhere!

@ocarol-ditto on the Rosario's recommendation. I'm from PA but love SanAn and have dreams about that salsa. My husband brings it home by the cooler-full if he gets down there. Another recommendation is right down the street from Rosario's-La Focaccia. You wouldn't think Italian when you go to Texas-but it is soooooooo good. Just in case you get tired of tex-mex. Have fun!

The little rhein steakhouse is always rated as one of the top independent steakhouses in the US:

I would also recommend going to the Mercado (Market square) where you can find homemade tamales, street food & a cantina.

Otherwise any of the non-chains on the riverwalk are pretty good.
As for overall entertainment....make sure and check out Durty Nelly's at the Hilton....kind of a tour trap but fun.

@ocarol - double ditto Rosario's. Also from PA and have been to San Antonio many times.

All the restaurants around the King William area are worth visiting. Stay at the Gardenia Inn B&B sometime if you can. The breakfasts are to die for.

My favorites are Boudros (hands down, every single time I'm in San An), and Pesca for seafood, both on the Riverwalk. Definitely try to sit outside at both places! I would suggest Pesca for lunch and Boudros for dinner, though both have excellent lunch specials... I highly recommend the duck and quail at Boudros. ;}

Mi Tierra in the old market square is great for authentic Mexican food. Great place to shop for souveniers also.

Mi Tierra can be better and worse depending, but it's open always, which is great.
Nonetheless, you must go, and you must have a margarita on the rocks in the mariachi bar (not the main dining room). For sheer atmosphere and swinging on the chandeliers fabulousness.
And take some sweets back to your room: pumpkin empanadas, pecan pralines, candied pumpkin, orejas, and sweetbreads are all my favorites.
