Frozen Candy?

When I was a kid, my Mom would slice a snickers bar into about 8 little pieces, spread them out and freeze them. Then after they're good and frozen, you have awesome little candies that start out hard and cold, then defrost from the heat of your mouth into a chewier than normal caramel... it's awesome!

Today I freeze all kind of candy. Anybody else?

We did Charleston Chews in the freezer. Freeze the whole thing (the big ones!) and then break it off in bites in your teeth as well as you could. Yum. Strawberry and Chocolate were the best!

that is exactly what i thought of when i read this post!! my mom always talks about charleston chews and freezing them. whenever we find some, we buy them for her and she only eats them frozen.

Oh... I never tried Charleston Chews. Thanks for the inspiration. I will try it.

frozen peanut butter cups...mmm

at the pool where i lived they used to sell frozen snickers, i still see them around sometimes... not that its too hard to make yourself or anything

i always freeze the chocolate creme eggs you get at easter! soooo good!

I also enjoy frozen 3 Musketeers and freezing chocolate covered marshmellow Easter candy is definitely the way to go :)

My husband freezes every kind of candy he can get his hands on. Everything except Twizzlers...

We didn't get much candy around our house except at Easter, Christmas and Halloween but every once in a while, my mom would buy a bag of fun-sized Snickers and put them in the fridge (whole rather than sliced). Yum.

Milky Ways are good straight from the fridge or freezer.

Not a candy, but Girl Scout Thin Mints usually go straight into the freezer around here.

I always put swedish fish in the freezer, they last much longer as suckers in my mouth!

Three Musketeers is awesome frozen, so are York Peppermint Patties.

LOVE frozen vanilla charleston chews. Also love frozen mini reese's peanut butter cups and hostess ho ho's even tho I know that isn't really candy...

this post is a dentists DREAM! :)
I love frozen snickers, Twix are great-it firms up that weird stale cookie inside, also I keep a stash of Heath bars in there- yum!

Hahaha... sure enough! :)

Actually, with the exception of perhaps M&Ms and jelly beans, I think that most candy tastes better frozen. Ditto with the snack cakes.

Perhaps not a dentist's dream, but from a dietician's POV as someone pointed out it does slow you down and make things last longer.

Also, as the bar melts, it's like 2 treats in one--the frozen taste and then the regular taste.

OMG - frozen Junior Mints are the BOMB!

Frozen Milky Way's are really good but really hard.

I forgot. I love frozen M & M s too. I keep 60% cocoa chocolate chips in a bowl in the refrigerator. A few tend to get grabbed every time the refrigerator is opened.

Tonight I created a new one...

- I refrigerated a 3 Musketeer and a Snickers to harden them up slightly.

- Then I sliced them both in 6 pieces. (refrigeration helps slicing)

- Let them sit out for a few minutes to soften back up to normal.

- Spread a thin layer of peanut butter on all pieces, and then stick together one of each, so you have 6 double sided cubes, with half of each candy type.

- Now freeze.

It was good... interesting.. but they didn't stick together as well as I hoped, and the freezing seemed to loosen up the bond between the peanut butter.

I will keep experimenting...

FFC -- Have you thought about maybe taking some cooking classes?

Or, perhaps wood shop?

to all the people that love frozen snickers bars, have you tried the snickers ice cream bar? they replace the nougat with ice cream and it's really addicting. they have them all the time at the dining commons and everyone tries to smuggle out as many as they can.

foodbeast, those are GLORIOUS. When I see them at the store I literally have to run away, because I swear I will rip it open and eat it right there. The salty peanuts are really what does it for me.

@Sieseye

LOL ... no.

I wasn't aware they taught you how to make a Snickerteer in either one. :)

By the way, I have no desire to cook, and I have plenty of wood, thank you.

I am also a frozen snickers and reese's peanut butter cup fan. Darn you people for making me crave candy I don't have on hand!

I also read here about the Indiana Jones Snickers bar that has coconut and haven't been able to find that anywhere--as I'm a coconut lover I believe this would be my perfect candy bar.

I loved frozen Charleston Chew back in the day, but I tried one last year (?)and it wasn't the same. The candy might have been stale. Or my tastebuds changed. :(

I have a bag of Cadbury Mini Eggs (the hard ones with the candy shell, not the creme eggs) in my freezer right now. They've been there since March. I haven't been able to eat straight up chocolate since February, and since those little suckers only come out once a year I decided to snag a bag and freeze it so I could have some when my chocolate aversion subsides. Every so often my son will open the freezer, gaze longingly at the purple bag and say "I sure hope you can eat chocolate again soon." Yeah, like I'm going to share those with you after a 9 months chocolate hiatus. Poor kid is delusional.

FFC -- I just thought you could combine your love of food and assembling things into one activity and perhaps make a bird feeder, or a cutting board.

:)

The vision of candy bars being dissected, and reassembled with PB, then frozen in some sort of Frankenbar will be with me for a while. Better candy than cats though. :]

PS. Try caramel to hold those bits together. Freezing though will create separation especially if they haven't been melted together. Harold McGee's On Food and Cooking: The science and lore of the Kitchen could be very helpful with your chemistry experiments. Remember, always wear safety glasses.
