Food Blog Trolls

Can someone please explain to me what is this trolling issue I keep reading about? I seem to be having an "experience" on my blog and I don't understand what is going on at all. I'm reading about this "troll" on other sites, and it was also brought up with the whole Tastespotting thing - people thinking it went down because of the troll.

Trolls are basically people who post inflammatory comments in order to generate a response. Sometimes they start off behaving as normal folks and then slowly begin to voice opinions that draw people into arguments with them. Oftentimes, trolling will increase during the summer months when kids are home from school and bored.

Depending on what sort of measures you can take, sometimes the best thing to do with trolls is ignore them. If they don't get the response they want, they go away to find better reactions. That's about all you can do if your site/blog/list/newsgroup is unmoderated. If you can control what is posted, you can choose to delete their comments or ban them from your site.

A non food-related example of trolls are the people who will go to Microsoft help sites and start posting about how much better Linux is as an operating system. Or who will ask about the best way to pirate the software.

Some trolls will target specific people, and even stalk them on different groups. They might verbally abuse other specific people, and they might find private information about a person and post it online.

Other trolls might steal a regular poster's identity and make comments as that person. Or the troll might design a post to get the whole group in an uproar. Food related, I don't know what that might be, but a troll on a pet site might ask how many hours they can leave their chihuahua puppy outside in the winter, or if its okay to leave the dog in the garage for a week while they're on vacation.

Some trolls are truly dangerous, some are kids fooling around, and some are off their meds and think that what they're doing is normal.
