Father's Day cake ideas?

My husband loves homemade cake, does anyone have an idea for fathers day dinner?

I would ask what his favorite flavor is and then go from there.
There are zillions of cake recipes out there, and different icings and toppings etc.
Since it is his day, make what he likes best.

If you can't find out, maybe make a sampler platter? Do mini-cakes or cupcakes in a couple flavors with a few different toppings, then everyone can try what they like or some of everything?

mini samples and cupcakes, this is a great idea, thank you soooo much, kids would really love this too.

For kids especially, if you have several to feed, a small 'toppings' bar is fun. (Like for ice cream sundaes)
Just put out a few small bowls of sprinkles, chopped fruits, candies, etc. and let the kids pick the topping for their cupcakes.
(Even adults like doing this! :))

I love doing combos for in-laws and groups, so no one can possibly whine that there is nothing they like, or wish I had brought such-and-such instead etc.

I make at this time of the year Ina Garten's Strawberry Country Cake. Strawberries are plentiful and cheap this is the best cake for them. My dad loves this cake. It is a home run. I been making it for about 5 years.

Italian cheesecake with seasonal (today; strawberries) fruit on the side.

If you are looking for something other than chocolate which is usually a hit but can be trite - a nice homemade carrot cake could with cream cheese frosting could be nice. My dad always loved that. Williams Sonoma has a very good recipe on their site.

My father loves two cakes, he requests one for his birthday and one for Father's Day...Boston Cream Pie and Tres Leches Cake with whipped cream and Strawberries on top.

Mocha Chocolate Chip Cheesecake

A little bit of coffee flavoring gives this cheesecake an adult taste.

Ingredients

2 1/4 C. graham cracker crumbs
12 oz. semi-sweet mini chocolate chips
2/3 C. butter, melted and cooled to room temperature
1/2 C. milk
4 tsp. instant coffee
1 envelope unflavored gelatin
16 oz. cream cheese, Softened
14 oz. sweetened condensed milk
2 C. heavy cream, whipped
1 C. mini chocolate chips

Directions

In large bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs, 1 C. little bits chocolate chips and butter, mix well. Pat firmly into 9-inch spring- form or cheesecake pan, covering bottom and 2 1/2-inches up sides. Set aside. In small saucepan, combine milk and instant coffee, sprinkle gelatin on top. Set aside for 1 minute. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until gelatin and coffee dissolve. Set aside. In large bowl, beat cream cheese until creamy. Beat in sweetened condensed milk and gelatin mixture. Fold in whipped cream and remaining 1 C. of little bits chocolate chips. Pour into prepared pan. Chill until firm (about 2 hours). Run knife around edge of cake to separate from pan, remove rim.

Chew on That

eXXXpresso brownies...yeah they are that good.

I made the devil's food cake and frosting from Eggbeater(Shuna Fish Lydon's blog) for my birthday and it was fantastic. The frosting has sour cream in it, which gives it a really nice taste.

Try out these recipes/icings/toppings if you're still interested in doing the cupcake idea. They were featured in last month's Food & Wine and they were AWESOME!!! Have fun with it!
