Dare I say VEGAN?

Lately I've been sort of obsessed with the vegan chocolate chip cookies at Whole Foods. I'm not a vegan or even a vegetarian, but I so love the chewy texture and the taste of these cookies. I'm strangely intrigued and I'd like to try and see if I can duplicate these cookies at home. Does anyone have a good recipe for vegan chocolate chip cookies? I've done a little searching here and there, but I'd like to try a recipe that others trust.

@kmnola -- These are the chocolate chip cookies I make for my granddaughter (who is vegan), because she LOVES these. The recipe fis from "Vegan with a Vengeance", by Isa Chandra Moskowitz:

There is only one change I make to this recipe: Instead of the "margarine" called for, I use Earth Balance (I buy it at Whole Foods).

I hope this helps!

Check out Isa's website too (Post Punk Kitchen) for more great ideas from baking (she did Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World) to other great vegan foods. She even has a TV show that can be watched via Google Video. You don't have to be vegan to enjoy foods that are (like peanut butter and jelly). :)

@Sieseye -- I agree, totally!

Post Punk Kitchen and Vegan Cupcakes Take over the World are two excellent sites for baking vegan sweets. Thanks for mentioning these!

these cherry carob cookies are not vegan, because they include butter, but they are made with whole wheat flour and do not include any eggs or chocolate in the recipe... try them. they're reeeeeeeeally good.

at my university we have a place that's all kosher/vegetarian and they sell some vegan cookies which are amazing (like snickerdoodles, etc.)

I made these (actually - MAKE these) and they're delicious... chewy and perfectly crisp on the edges. Made with silken tofu too but you'd never tell!

These all look great. Thank you all for the suggestions!
