Crazy delicious and creative hot dog creations?

I just signed up to attend The Great Hot Dog Cookoff (http://www.thegreathotdogcookoff.com) and after looking over the past contestants, which included a Buffalo Wing Style Dog (with hot sauce and blue cheese) and the winner, the Pesto Dog ("served in a hollowed out Italian roll, and wrapped in pesto sauce and mozzarella"), it got me thinking about other ridiculous but delicious hot dog creations. There's the Chihuahua Crif Dog (wrapped in bacon, topped with avo, onions, and sour cream, then deep-fried), kimchee hot dogs from Snacky in Williamsburg, and even the bulgogi hot dogs SE just picked up on via Eater.

Has anyone had some of their own crazy and delicious hot dogs? Any ideas? I was thinking of one with a fried egg, furikake, and sriracha...

how bout a "triple bypass" ?......wrapa hot dog with raw hamburger.....then wrap the dog/burger with bacon an cook till done

Italians put hotdogs on their pizza.

Norwegians (my boyfriend included) like prawn salad on their hotdogs. The kind that has lots of little prawns in pink-ish mayonnaise. The whole mess is wrapped in a lompe, which is like a Norwegian tortilla, and combined with other condiments: cream sauce, mustard, chopped onions, etc. It's kind of OTT.

My son and I recently went to a place called Big Bad Breakfast in Oxford, MS, John Currence's latest establishment.

On his menu is something called either a Dirty Dog or the Pylon. (Both names have appeared on the menu at various times.)

It is a big waffle topped with a fried, open-faced hot dog, chili, coleslaw, cheese, pickles, onion, jalapenos and .... oyster crackers.

My son kept saying it was weird, but he at the whole thing.

Sure, oyster crackers. Most every chili mac I've eaten comes with crackers, just like chili would, and I suspect the Cincinnati-style chili 5 ways does, too. I think the Pylon sounds delightful. I'd put it on a cornmeal waffle, myself.

And isn't that Norwegian bread called lefse? I've knocked back a few of those dogs myself when visiting the family's Norwegian branch. They're often sold at gas stations.

Oh my goodness - that buffalo wing hot dog sounds amazing!

Chew on That

@lemons: lompe is the one that you eat with a hotdog, lefse is eaten with butter and sugar. Both are thin, griddle-cooked, and made with potatoes, but lefse is the one that has all the little holes in it, whereas lompe is more tortilla-like. And yes, they're sold at newsagents, petrol stations, street stands, everywhere!

My fiance loves the Spicy Redneck at Crif: deep-fried bacon-wrapped hot dog with chili, jalapeno, and creamy cole slaw. I'm partial to a deep-fried, bacon-wrapped dog with onions, tomato, cucumber and jalapeno.

There's also, at PDT next door, the Chang Dog: a deep-fried hot dog wrapped in bacon and smothered with David Chang’s red kimchee puree. I liked it but thought the John John Deragon dog was better: a deep fried Crif Dog with cream cheese, everything bagel spices and scallions. The Speakcheesy is good, too, with a spicy drink, it's a Crif dog with jalapeno cheese whiz. And of course there's also the Wylie dog: a deep-fried hot dog with a "stick" of deep-fried mayo breaded with hot dog crumbs, tomato molasses, freeze-dried onions, and shredded romaine.

onepercent99 - holy crap the 'triple bypass' sounds exactly what I would want. like now.

we have a hotdog stand here that is called 'Mustard's Last Hotdog Stand' that does really great combos. My favorite is the 'Cowboy' which is a dog wrapped in bacon, wrapped in tortilla, deep fried then covered with chili and cheese.

I used to get a Jumbo Pizza Dog at a restaurant in Northern Virginia (I think it may have been a chain, but I can't recall the name). Bun with poppyseeds, jumbo dog, pizza sauce, shredded mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, all back into a steamer to melt/cook a bit. A long time favorite of mine.

Those all sound great! How about a Cobb Dogg with bacon, blue cheese, egg, and avocado?

There's a place in Iowa called Blue Mountain Lodge, they have hotdogs that you can customize anyway you want, and they usually have a special dog of the week, miss piggy's nightmare: a dog wrapped in bacon and topped with pulled pork, the hawaii 5-0: a fried hot dog with teriyaki sauce, grilled pineapple and sesame seeds. I always get two fried hot dogs with mayo, ketchup, bacon, pulled pork, cheese, jalapenos and diced onion. I made myself hungry...

Didn't they eat something on "Sopranos" called Lincoln Logs made out of hot dogs and cream cheese? I never actually ate them.

When I lived back in Brasil, I used to get hot dogs - hot dog in a roll, a layer of peas and onions in tomato sauce, mayonnaise, ketchup, and then a layer of mashed potatoes on top, covered with grated Parmesan cheese. For some reason I used to always eat them with a Fanta grape soda.

You had me at "pesto dog".
